★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small bar in the back streets of Venice. One overworked barman, reasonably priced drinks, relaxing old world charm. For some reason I felt Hemingway may have been comfortable here. Not as expensive as the bars on the canal

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Tornowska Bar is located in the Ala hotel but it plays music as loud a night club even though its empty. During our stay in the Ala hotel the bar played party music every night past midnight. Even though there were several complaints from different hotel guests, the barkeeper continued to play the music without turning it down. The receptionist explained at 1am that he couldn't do anything about this and that he had already asked the barkeeper to turn it down. The bar was almost empty at midnight... They repeated this for 4 consecutive nights... Super embarrassing for both bar and the Ala hotel...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I personally thought it was good. The bartender made a solid Old Fashioned - well he made me more than one. Service was fairly prompt, particularly in light of the full house the evening I was there. Overall, a nice environment, I think it was possibly remodeled during the pandemic as the furnishings seemed on the newer side. Better value than typical for a self-described American Bar.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just popped in to grab a couple cocktails and kill a few minutes before our gondola ride. Glad we did! This place exceeded expectations from the outside unlabeled side entrance. Got a delicious Old Fashioned with Buffalo Trace whiskey and wife got a vodka soda. The OF was outstanding. They also brought out some free small bites for the table. Cocktail prices were €14, but they were delicious and worth it.
