★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Erano sempre e sempre saranno nel tempo infinito" é la frase che si legge sul basamento della statua dedicata ad Empedocle, genio akragantino, personalità poliedrica ed eccentrica che arrivò addirittura ad essere divinizzato. La statua in bronzo su base di marmo, é collocata al centro della piazzetta Vadalà e guarda la via Atenea, arteria principale del centro storico di Agrigento. Opera del maestro Nino Contino in collaborazione con Disma Tumminello. E’ alta 3 metri e pesa 600 Kg. Rappresenta l’illustre cittadino di Akragas, vissuto nel V secolo avanti Cristo. Durante le mie visite guidate non tralascio mai di parlarne raccontando fatti storici e aneddoti legati ad Empedocle e alla sua statua.
Nino Contino, pittore e scultore, ha realizzato per Agrigento anche il monumento a Don Bosco collocato nel Belvedere Don Bosco e la croce per Giovanni Paolo II presso la rotonda Giunone. Nino Contino, nato a Bengasi Libia, nel 1925, ha insegnato Storia dell'Arte ad Agrigento dove é morto nel 1999.
 "They were always and always will be in infinite time" is the sentence that can be read on the base of the statue dedicated to Empedocles, akragantine genius, multifaceted and eccentric personality who even came to be deified. The bronze statue on a marble base is located in the center of the Vadalà square and overlooks the Via Atenea, the main artery of the historic center of Agrigento. Work of the master Nino Contino in collaboration with Disma Tumminello. It is 3 meters high and weighs 600 kg. It represents the illustrious citizen of Akragas, who lived in the fifth century BC. During my guided tours I never fail to talk about it by telling historical facts and anecdotes related to Empedocles and his statue.
Nino Contino, painter and sculptor, also made for Agrigento the monument to Don Bosco located in the Belvedere Don Bosco and the cross for John Paul II at the Giunone roundabout. Nino Contino, born in Benghazi Libya, in 1925, taught History of Art in Agrigento where he died in 1999.
