★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Molto bella la chiesa di Santa Maria assunta, si trova nel centro storico di Savona e adiacente ad essa si trova anche la cappella Sistina. L' ingresso alla cappella costa 3 euro ma diciamo che il servizio che ci è stato offerto li vale tutti. La guida ci ha prima fatto fare il giro della chiesa che presenta tanti piccoli e grandi tesori. All'ingresso troviamo subito la fonte battesimale, poi una croce in marmo con un Cristo morente da un lato e una Madonna con il bimbo dall'altro lato. Presente anche lo straordinario coro intarsiato uno dei più belli d'Italia. Nell'ordine superiore sono presenti immagini di santi, vescovi, papi e nell'ordine inferiore oggetti di uso quotidiano, animali e strumenti musicali. L'opera è di ispirazione rinascimentale calda e luminosa. Poi c'è la bellissima cappella Sistina fatta erigere dallo stesso papà della cappella di Roma. Questa cappella funeraria accolse il mausoleo dei genitori del papà Sisto IV e venne poi restaurata in stile barocco. Numerosi gli aneddoti sulla cattedrale, il papa che si rifiutò di incoronare Napoleone fu tenuto prigioniero negli alloggi della chiesa e poteva assistere alla messa solo attraverso la grata ancora presente nelle cattedrale.... Mi fermo perché le storie, le opere sono tante e tutte bellissime non vi resta che visitare questa splendida chiesa e la sua città.
 The church of Santa Maria Assunta is very beautiful, it is located in the historic center of Savona and adjacent to it there is also the Sistine chapel. The entrance to the chapel costs 3 euros but let's say that the service offered to us is worth it all. The guide first showed us around the church which has many small and big treasures. At the entrance we immediately find the baptismal font, then a marble cross with a dying Christ on one side and a Madonna with child on the other side. Also present is the extraordinary inlaid choir, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In the upper order there are images of saints, bishops, popes and in the lower order everyday objects, animals and musical instruments. The work is of warm and bright Renaissance inspiration. Then there is the beautiful Sistine chapel built by the same father of the chapel in Rome. This funeral chapel housed the mausoleum of the parents of father Sixtus IV and was later restored in the Baroque style. Numerous anecdotes about the cathedral, the pope who refused to crown Napoleon was held prisoner in the lodgings of the church and could only attend mass through the grate still present in the cathedral .... I stop because the stories, the works are many and all you just have to visit this splendid church and its city.
