La chiesa di San Pietro della Ienca, otan come santuario di papa Giovanni Paolo II, è situato nell'omonimo borgo dove vi è anche un piccolo ristorante, a poca distanza da Assergi e nel territorio comunale dell'Aquila. È nota per essere stata luogo di preghiera di papa Giovanni Paolo II in cui è custodita una reliquia ed è meta di pellegrinaggi. A fianco la chiesa, di sicura origine Medievale, vi è uno dei tanti sentieri del CAI. Da non perdere Surely it is a place that has a bit of magic. La chiesetta oggi nota come santuario di papa Giovanni Paolo II, è un piccolo edificio religioso in stile romanico. Talmente tranquillo che anche Giovanni PaoloII ci passò molto del suo tempo quando era in vita. Si respira freschezza e relax circondato dalla natura . Consigliato, specie dopo aver fatto trekking per un meritato riposo . Non da tralasciare la fonte di acqua freschissima per rigenerarsi.
