This sanctuary is located on sacred ground, being the burial place of Nazarius and Celsus, two martyrs from Christianity’s earliest centuries. Saint Ambrose, then bishop of Milan, following his deep devotion to those two martyrs, and led to the right track by devotional traditions, managed to discover their bodies on May 10-th, AD 396.
In the years 996 and 997, then archbishop of Milan Lansulf II hâd a monastery and a new basilica built, replacing the old and decrepit church of St. Celsus, and entrusted both to Benedictine monks.
In 1430, Duke of Milan Filippo Maria Visconti had another small church built, purpose-made for containing the niche built by Saint Ambrose. This church was perpendicular to the basilica of St. Celsus, and hâd a capacity of about 300 people.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I liked this place so much! It is hidden from the facade, so maybe that's why it is not so popular. I just saw accidentally the angels from the other side of the street and decided to walk in to see, what is that. No regrets!
The facade of the church is cool, and the interior is really ornate. A lot of pictures and decorations. Calm and beautiful.
Also I liked the tablet with description inside - it has also imprinted braille and convex church facade image.

What I didn't like - electrical "candles". Unneeded modernity and makes it less soulful :(
