La chiesa venne edificata nel XI secolo e negli anni 50 ha subito un importante restauro conservativo per riparare i danni provocati dalla 2° Guerra Mondiale. Commonly called La Pieve di Cavriana, the building is located in an isolated area from the town on a hill and is one of the most important Romanesque churches in Mantovano. The church was built in the 11th century and in the 1950s it underwent an important conservative restoration to repair the damage caused by the 2nd World War.

Peccato che i soliti fumatori italiani non hanno rispetto neanche di questi luoghi storici, infatti mozziconi di sigarette li si possono trovare anche qua, davanti all'ingresso. Complimenti per la civiltà! Tranquility, peace and serenity ... this is what I felt seeing this Sanctuary. Too bad that the usual Italian smokers have no respect even for these historical places, in fact cigarette butts can also be found here, in front of the entrance. Congratulations on civilization!

L'edificio, che si erge isolato su un colle, è una delle chiese romaniche più importanti e meglio conservate del mantovano. La pieve, interamente in cotto, venne edificata nell'XI secolo e l'interno, a navata unica, è coperto da una struttura lignea a capriate. Nel presbiterio è collocato l'altorilievo di santa Maria Nova, del XIV secolo. Negli anni cinquanta ha subito un rilevante restauro conservativo, per riparare i danni provocati dalla seconda guerra mondiale. Certainly a favorable place for a stop of beauty, silence, prayer. The parish church, entirely in terracotta, was built in the 11th century and the interior, with a single nave, is covered by a wooden truss structure. In the presbytery there is the high relief of Santa Maria Nova, from the XIV century. Santuario spoglio ma notevole. Un romanico molto arioso certamente un luogo favorevole per una sosta di bellezza, silenzio, preghiera. L'edificio, che si erge isolato su un colle, è una delle chiese romaniche più importanti e meglio conservate del mantovano. Posto molto suggestivo, da visitare. A	Alberto Vischio on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Arrivati in centro a Cavriana seguire le indicazioni S. Maria della Pieve. Con l'auto percorrere la stradina in salita e parcheggiare nel parcheggio adiacente. Il santuario é veramente ben tenuto e in un posto tranquillo e pieno di verde. Once in the center of Cavriana, follow the signs for S. Maria della Pieve. By car, take the small uphill road and park in the adjacent parking lot. The sanctuary is really well kept and in a quiet and green place.

Sembra di essere nella campagna toscana. All'interno sono visibili i resti di alcuni affreschi e la bella Madonna in cotto. Da vedere: location molto suggestiva. Beautiful Romanesque terracotta sanctuary, perfectly preserved, located a little outside the center of Cavriana, on a hill and immersed in a bucolic landscape. It seems to be in the Tuscan countryside. Inside, the remains of some frescoes and the beautiful terracotta Madonna are visible. To see: very suggestive location.
