★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quite impressive but as of end of July undergoing restauration works. The shrine of the Virgin of Loreto is quite small and the virgin itself is small as well. The plaza in front of the basilica is almost as beautiful as the church itself. Lots of small shops selling all kinds of items related to the virgin can be found in the nearby narrow streets and its mainly tourist stuff. But the center surrounding the basilica is lovely. If you want to buy good local food specialties paired with a lovely owner you need to pay a visit to Panificio Consalvi directly by the main place of the basilica.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They have ramps for us who are handicapped, but plan on not having to use a restroom. They don't have handicap bathrooms anywhere, not even in any of the restaurants. The church is very beautiful, peaceful and moving.
In case you're wondering (no real English translation) black Madonna refers to the tan Mary got, not that she is of African descent. I was confused about that for a while.

You are not allowed to take pictures inside the church, but visit their website for photos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I spotted the basilica from the motorway. I had no idea of the historic significance. I have zero religious inclination, but as a world traveler I always enjoy a beautiful basilica. And it never ceases to amaze me how much significant people place on these buildings with over the top ornate decoration.
