Certo che la gente di un tempo erano ammirevoli per semplicità, serietà e devozione e soprattutto per riconoscenza verso Chi consentiva loro di avere i prodotti della terra, il bestiame e latte. Costruivano in ringraziamento questi gioiellini. Tuttavia la primitiva chiesa della Madonna del Latte (originariamente Madonna della Scaglia) è di presumibile fondazione trecentesca. Ma fu verso la fine del Quattrocento che venne arricchita del suo tesoro più prezioso, ossia gli splendidi affreschi tardogotici che ricoprono gran parte delle pareti laterali e l'intero catino absidale. Si tratta di una delle più fresche testimonianze di due delle maggiori botteghe pittoriche della Novara di fine medioevo, quelle di Tommaso Cagnola e Daniele De Bosis. Alla prima si devono le pitture laterali, alla seconda quelle dell'abside e dell'arco trionfale. La chiesa è generalmente aperta, si entra schiacciando un pulsante a lato della porta d'ingresso. Una visita da non lasciarsi sfuggire.
