Omelie imperdibili, rare a trovarsi. Superb Cremonese church, well kept, certainly worth visiting. For believers, a Mass celebrated by the parish priest Don Aldo is certainly recommended. Unmissable homilies, rare to find.

La tradizione vuole che il tempio sia stato costruito in epoca longobarda. I primi documenti attestano l'esistenza di una chiesa a partire dall'VIII secolo[2]. Nell'XI secolo, come attesta un documento del vescovo Landolfo, la vecchia chiesa doveva presentarsi deteriorata a causa del tempo, oltre ad essere del tutto inadeguata ad accogliere un numero maggiore di fedeli. Pres a poco 1200, fu quindi innalzato un nuovo edificio, in stile romanico, le cui dimensioni coincidevano con quelle dell'attuale edificio.[3]Il tempio si presentava a tre navate, ognuna delle quali terminava con un'abside (solo quella centrale è sopravvissuta ai successivi interventi). Il presbiterio fu realizzato decisamente più in alto rispetto alle navate, e sotto di esso fu scavata la cripta, anch'essa a tre navate. Nel XIII secolo la chiesa subì un rifacimento, che interessò in modo particolare la navata principale. In questa occasione, gli archi a tutto sesto che sostenevano le pareti furono sostituiti da archi a sesto acuto, tipici dell'architettura gotica. L'intervento però non interessò il presbiterio, che mantenne le originali caratteristiche romaniche[2]. Ulteriori interventi si ebbero nei secoli successivi, in particolare nel XIX secolo. Nel 1848 la costruzione del nuovo campanile comportò la demolizione dell'abside di sinistra, e, nel 1861 il prevosto don Carlo Tessaroli intraprese una serie di restauri allo scopo di riportare la facciata della chiesa all'aspetto che essa aveva al termine del XIII secolo. Notevoli interventi di restauro si ebbero nel 1911, quando il prevosto don Giovanni Varischi fece cancellare, dall'interno della chiesa, tutte le aggiunte e le modifiche apportate durante gli ultimi secoli, e ripristinò la volta a crociera. Bella chiesa⛪?☀️?. Grazie a Dio ? The basilica of San Michele Vetere is an important Catholic place of worship in Cremona, formerly the city's cathedral from 1124 to 1190. Tradition has it that the temple was built in the Lombard period. The first documents attest to the existence of a church starting from the eighth century [2]. In the 11th century, as a document by Bishop Landolfo attests, the old church must have deteriorated due to time, as well as being completely inadequate to accommodate a greater number of faithful. A little later 1200, a new building was erected, in Romanesque style, whose dimensions coincided with those of the current building. [3] The temple had three naves, each of which ended with an apse (only the central one survived subsequent interventions). The presbytery was built much higher than the aisles, and the crypt, also with three naves, was excavated under it. In the thirteenth century the church underwent a makeover, which particularly affected the main nave. On this occasion, the round arches that supported the walls were replaced by pointed arches, typical of Gothic architecture. However, the intervention did not affect the presbytery, which maintained its original Romanesque features [2]. Further interventions took place in the following centuries, in particular in the nineteenth century. In 1848 the construction of the new bell tower involved the demolition of the left apse, and, in 1861 the provost Don Carlo Tessaroli undertook a series of restorations in order to restore the facade of the church to the appearance it had at the end of the 13th century. Considerable restoration interventions took place in 1911, when the provost Don Giovanni Varischi had all the additions and changes made during the last centuries deleted from the inside of the church, and restored the cross vault.
