★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sul poggio di Spartacciano sorgono i resti del eremo di san Michele alle formiche, costruito dai monaci celestini nel 1377 e chiamato così per via dei fenomeni che accadevano nel mese di settembre, quando sciami di formiche alate si riunivano intorno all’antica campana del monastero. Da qua nasce la leggenda che dopo l’abbandono dell’eremo avvenuta nel diciottesimo secolo e la collocazione della campana nella torre del Marzocco di Pomarance, le formiche secondo la voce popolare si radunarono ancora intorno alla campana per riportarla sulla collina di Spartacciano.
Arrivati in cima al poggio è possibile ammirare il paesaggio in totale silenzio.
On the Spartacciano hill there are the remains of the hermitage of San Michele alle Formiche, built by the Celestine monks in 1377 and named after the phenomena that occurred in September, when swarms of winged ants gathered around the ancient bell of the monastery. Hence the legend that after the abandonment of the hermitage in the eighteenth century and the placement of the bell in the Marzocco tower in Pomarance, the ants, according to the popular rumor, still gathered around the bell to bring it back to the Spartacciano hill.
Once at the top of the hillock it is possible to admire the landscape in total silence.
