β β β β β This is a stunning theatre, the first one built in Europe in 1737 (before La Scala in Milan) and although it looks nothing from the outside the photos tell a very different story on the inside. Enjoy the grandeur when it's empty, concert tickets start from 500β¬ and go up from there!

β β β β β San Carlo is certainly the most beautiful theater all over the world. The oldest one as well. Rossini, Verdi, Donizetti - if these names mean something for you you should definitely visit this magic and unforgettable place. Unfortunately, there were no performances during our stay in Napoli however we decided to take a guided tour to feel the inner atmosphere of San Carlo at least and this was the best solution. We bought an Italian language tour and it was really amazing. It lasted about 45 min and during this trip we visited the main hall, boxes and foyers but also the royal box which was incredibly beautiful. Moreover, we were lucky to see a piece of rehearsal sitting inside the Royal box which gave us fantastic impressions. And I would like to thank our dearest guide for her emotional and bright story about San Carlo full of interesting details and hidden secrets.
The ticket costs 9 euro and you can book it in advance on the official website of the theater. Basic languages are Italian and English. Other languages are available upon request.
Hope next time we will be lucky to visit the full performance in San Carlo. A presto!

β β β β β Beautiful building, no doubt about it. Went to see Tosca which was also fantastic but my experience was ruined by being distracted by the locals in my box - despite 3 of the 5 others being over 60, all of them were taking photos and videos during the performance with bright screens and talking during the opera. There is an obvious problem with the policing of camera and phone use, which is something the theatre staff really need to sort out. We shouldn't have had to tell them to stop using their phones. Why do people dress up and pay to see a world class opera to be checking their WhatsApps?!

β β β β β I had my bucket list of important theaters of the world and my hope to see performances in each but it appears that I will be able to visit them but not see performing arts there. Ok

β β β β β The ballet "Swan Lake" that I've had the pleasure to watch here is a miracle. I recommend to everyone visiting Naples to watch this play.
The white and black swans were the grace itself. I loved them.
And the theatre is such an architectural wonder! The royal lodge and the small lodges are so elegant and covered in red cloth and golden foil.
