Architettonicamente e' modesta e piuttosto brutta, per questo chiamata del carciofo dai napoletani. Si trova al centro di Piazza Trieste e Trento che invece e' di grande bellezza e interesse artistico e architettonico. Nella piazza sfocia via Toledo, vi si affaccia parte del Teatro San Carlo e del Palazzo Reale, si accede alla bellissima Piazza del Plebiscito e a Via Chiaia. Nella Piazza anche il Caffe' storico liberty Gambrinus con i tavolini all'aperto, insieme ad altri bar disseminati in tutta la piazza. The fountain dates back to the second post-war period during the municipal administration of Achille Lauro. Architecturally it is modest and rather ugly, which is why the artichoke was called by the Neapolitans. It is located in the center of Piazza Trieste e Trento which instead is of great beauty and artistic and architectural interest. Via Toledo leads into the square, part of the San Carlo Theater and the Royal Palace overlooks it, and leads to the beautiful Piazza del Plebiscito and Via Chiaia. In the square also the historic Liberty Gambrinus coffee with outdoor tables, together with other bars scattered throughout the square.

Sui tre lati del monumento trovano posto tre coppie di vasi decorati. È dalla forma della corolla, somigliante ad un carciofo, che proviene il nomignolo popolare della fontana. Nel corso del 2015 il monumento viene sottoposto a profondi lavori di restauro e pulizia tornando così al suo aspetto originario. The fountain consists of two levels: at the base there is a large basin with another small raised basin in the center that supports a sculpture in the shape of a floral corolla. On the three sides of the monument there are three pairs of decorated vases. The popular nickname for the fountain comes from the shape of the corolla, resembling an artichoke. During 2015, the monument underwent extensive restoration and cleaning work, thus returning to its original appearance.

Svolge una funzione di arredo urbano che non guasta nel contesto in cui é collocata. Fa da rotatoria al traffico, spesso presiediata dalla polizia urbana. Molto conosciuta dai napoletani e dai turisti Fountain wanted and built by the mayor Lauro, therefore dating back to a few decades ago.
