Ubaldo Baldassini era un vescovo di Gubbio (1085-1160), appartenente ad una nobile famiglia originaria della Germania, rimasto orfano di entrambi genitori, ed allevato da uno zio che curò la sua educazione religiosa e intellettuale. La fama del suo nome e delle sue virtù si era diffusa al di fuori della sua città, tanto che Perugia nel 1126 lo acclamò suo vescovo. Il vescovo Ubaldo governò la diocesi di Gubbio per 31 anni, durante i quali superò felicemente avversità ed ostacoli, riuscendo a piegare con la dolcezza i suoi nemici e ad ammansire gli avversari con la mitezza d’animo.In morte gli si attribuiscono profezie, miracoli, lo si proclama patrono, e già nel 1192 il papa Celestino III lo canonizza.
S. Ubaldo Baldassini was a bishop of Gubbio (1085-1160), belonging to a noble family originally from Germany, orphaned by both parents, and raised by an uncle who took care of his religious and intellectual education. The fame of his name and his virtues had spread outside his city, so much so that Perugia in 1126 acclaimed him as his bishop. Bishop Ubaldo ruled the diocese of Gubbio for 31 years, during which he happily overcame adversities and obstacles, succeeding in gently bending his enemies and taming opponents with mildness of mind. In death, prophecies, miracles are attributed to him. , proclaimed him patron, and already in 1192 Pope Celestine III canonized him.
