Simple looking and very distinctive restaurant. We ate heavenly and super nice staff. Appetizer for 2, 3 first courses: tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, cavatelli with cheese, pepper and truffle and penne with meat sauce, plus 1 off-menu polenta with sauce with sausage and ribs and 1 tiramisu, wine and water ... in three β¬ 56
It can't be better. Highly recommended!

Non avevamo prenotato, ma il cuoco Γ¨ riuscito a prepararci comunque qualcosa, Γ¨ stato molto gentile.
Il cibo era molto buono e le porzioni abbondanti! Ci torneremo con piΓΉ calma prossimamente ?
We took the take away for New Year's Eve dinner.
We hadn't booked, but the cook managed to make us something anyway, he was very kind.
The food was very good and the portions were generous! We will be back with more calm in the near future ?

β β β β β Pranzo di Pasqua presso questo ristorante. Piatti veramente buoni, compresi quelli tipicamente "pasquali". Personale cortese e servizio nei tempi, ho notato alcuni piatti della tradizione vitorchianese che tornerΓ² a degustare sicuramente. Lo consiglio!
Easter lunch at this restaurant. Really good dishes, including the typically "Easter" ones. Courteous staff and timely service, I noticed some traditional Vitorchianese dishes that I will definitely return to taste. I advise!

β β β β β La prima cosa che mi viene in mente la tanta gentilezza delle cameriere, la prima per l'ordine gentilissima e cordiale. La seconda per la sua estrema gentilezza nel scusarsi per aver ritardato nel servire le portate secondo me non abbiamo aspettato tanto anzi era tutto nei tempi considerando che era tutto pieno nel locale. E poi che dire dei cavitelli di cacio e pepe con funghi al tartufo nero. Una vera bontΓ invece la mia metΓ con la polenta con spuntature e salsiccia si sguagliava tutto in bocca veramente tutto buonissimo grazie ancora alle ragazze per la vostra gentilezza.
The first thing that comes to mind is the kindness of the waitresses, the first for the very kind and friendly order. The second for his extreme kindness in apologizing for having delayed in serving the courses, in my opinion we did not wait long indeed it was all on time considering that everything was full in the place. And then what about the cavitelli of cheese and pepper with mushrooms with black truffle. A real goodness instead my half with the polenta with ribs and sausage it was all in the mouth really all very good thanks again to the girls for your kindness.

β β β β β I call San Francisco home but have lived 4-6 months a year in Italy for more than 15 years. My second home is in Vitorchiano, one of the most remarkable medieval towns in Italy, but I have also lived in Rome, Todi and Umbertide. Because I love to eat and eat out most of the time, I have had the opportunity to sample a great number of restaurants throughout central Italy. Of course, I am spoiled by the great restaurants in San Francisco, but I have found some fabulous restaurants here in Italy and Lo Zafferano is truly one of the best.
Paolo, the owner and chef, is a Vitorchiano native, but before he came back home to open his own restaurant he spent two decades traveling internationally - from South America to New York to the Middle East - opening and managing restaurants for some of the world's top hotels and resorts. Because Lo Zafferano is just a short walk from my apartment in Vitorchiano, I have eaten there dozens of times over the years and have never been disappointed.
Paolo is a talented, creative chef who loves to cook, and his menu at Lo Zafferano takes local Italian cuisine and ingredients to new heights even as he respects Italy's great culinary traditions. His pasta is perfect, his sauces are scrumptious, his meat and fish are as fresh as they come, and his portions are always much too generous even for a serious eater like me. A TIP: His unusual pairing of grilled fish with local black truffles surprises and delights everyone who tries it.
Paolo himself is a charming, outgoing host who speaks excellent English - far better than my Italian - so I have had the pleasure of getting to know him personally. I urge you, too, to get to know Paolo and Lo Zafferano. Tell 'em Bill sent you. :-)

β β β β β Nice cosy restaurant in the old part of town. Food excellent and very good sized portions! The meat was succulent and tasty, apparently also the fish is very good but I will save that for my next visit. Staff wonderful, friendly and very helpful....well worth a visit!
