Ristorante Vineria Cap'alice Napoli

Nice spot where to enjoy original dishes. The appetizers were delicious, I tried the linguine with crabs as main course but they sort of lacked taste. Maybe it was a particularly unlucky night for crabs as all the three plates of linguine and crabs had a blunt taste. Very curious that there is only one giant menu that travels from table to table! The desserts and the service were outstanding!

Best dinner we had in Napoli. Great location on a pedestrian street. Fantastic restaurant serving wonderful food. Our waiter Luca spoke excellent English and patiently went through the menu for us. He paired each meal with a perfect glass of wine.

Wonderful restaurant. Especially the outdoor seating area is nice. The pasta, fish and beef we had was delicious. The service was super friendly.

Great food, great atmosphere! Get the grilled octopus if it's on the menu!

I’ll try to be as objective as possible. PROS: I stumbled upon Ca’Palice by chance. The food was incredible. I had the grilled octopus and it was simply delicious: tender, cooked to perfection and with creative sides. As an Italian, I don’t say this often. I also had white wine and the deconstructed ricotta dessert, which was another great choice. Food-wise, Ca’Palice really blew my mind. Value for money also great (just 31€). CONS: I felt that the staff (3 waiters and the host) really treated me like a second-class customer. I waited for 20 minutes just to be offered water and the menu, seeing people that came well after me being served first. Finally, after another 15 minutes, I was able to catch the waiter again to ask for the wine menu. After finishing the main, it took the waiter 10 minutes to ask me if I wanted dessert and a further 30 for it to get here (at the same time as another couple who had ordered the same dessert 5 minutes prior to delivery). I was paid no attention whatsoever during the entire duration of the meal, not by the waiters, not by the host, even though they were serving everyone else and the owner was chatting to all other customers. I don’t know if this was because I came here alone and they assumed I was not going to spend a lot, but I came here to eat well and have a great evening, so it was extremely disappointing to see the way I was treated. I politely let one of the waiters know that I was feeling unwelcome. The staff was never directly rude, but they proceeded to do nothing, not even reassure me of the opposite. After paying, I said the same thing to the host, and, in a tone that resembled mockery more than anything else, he told one of the waiters that was passing by that I hadn’t been ‘pampered’ enough. As we say in Italian, ‘Oltre al danno la beffa’. This is the reason why I sadly have to give Ca’Palice 3 stars. OVERALL VERDICT: The food was great. But this experience makes me think: is it worth having great food if the experience makes you feel miserable? Probably not. Update after the host’s comment: I did let the host and the waiter know as soon as I arrived that I was here for dinner. I suggested myself to sit on the high chairs to begin my meal and then be moved to the normal tables if one freed up. I was not commenting on the table choice, but rather on the lack (and then delay) of the service. Thank you Mario for your reply both here and in the restaurant.
