★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When my wife and I ate here in August 2021, it had a Google rating of 4.5 stars. It’s rating, pictures, and location are why I picked it for dinner. It looked like it should be a solid place to experience the lauded Florentine Steak. But after sitting through a meal here, and paying roughly 200 Euros for it, I’m not surprised to see that the rating has dropped to 4.1 stars in only 6 months time. Both couples at the tables to either side of us were clearly unimpressed with their meal. And the couple to my right, after having a bit of a spat with the emotionless host, left without paying. In hindsight I wish I had had the nerve to do the same. I’m willing to tolerate aloof or callous service if the food is delicious. But the steak at this place was anything but. Now I’ve eaten steak everywhere from Texas Roadhouse to Keen’s in NYC. And I cook a pretty decent one myself, whether it be with a grill or a case iron skillet. I’ve sunk my teeth into everything from $10 choice sirloins, to 45 day dry-aged prime ribeyes, to A5 Kobe filets. I’ve honestly never had a less flavorful steak anywhere than at Ristorante Santa Maria Novella. But a lack of flavor wasn’t the only issue. The meat was surprisingly tough, despite it being cooked no more than medium-rare. A bottom-dollar sirloin from Walmart would have taken less effort to chew. Long story short, this was easily the worst meal of our 10 days in Italy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Food quality was really bad given that it’s suppose to a high end restaurant.
We had their speciality, the Fiorentina steak, which turned out dry and tasteless, even after adding a dash of salt.
The other dish was pasta, the pasta clumped together and was such a dry dish, it was difficult to get through the meal.
Service was extremely slow and took a long time for everything. The previous reviews were right, they treat tourists poorly compared to the locals.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a great find. We dined here about a month ago and really thought highly of the food and the service. I had the wild boar and she had the white beans in oil. A lite lunch before heading to the train station. Walking distance from all around.
