★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Welcoming Rifugio Col de Varda at the top of one of the cheapest chairlifts you’ll find in Europe! Take the easy ride up and the stunning views. Refreshing drinks, comfortable beds and hot showers all included in a sensible price structure. My bedroom window view from the top bunk was outstanding. Clean bathrooms and despite a creaky staircase everything was handled smoothly and comfortably by the staff. Making an effort to speak Italian Io vorrei questa per favore receives a ‘you’re welcome’ response - ‘Prego’! Otherwise German, Deutsch, Tedesco is understood. The route Alt 4 bypasses this hostel but I would suggest you include route 117 with a via ferrata that is achievable. Completed at sunrise or sunset is the most rewarding, as there are few people on his route. At this time the speckled light becomes violet and crimson. Hues that light and fire the imagination as the Dolomites come to life!!! Even with a little imaginative shadow dragons and goblin faces appear in the limestone formations!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing view from the terrace Rifugio Col De Varda. We went hiking from Lake Misurina. You really need to have poles with you if you are hiking in the snow. It can be very slippery on the path because some spots are really very steep. Remember to take sunglasses if it's a sunny day. If you're lucky you might even spot rabbit tracks. During the snowing season and when its slippery its recommended to take the double seating ski lift downhil. All though it will cost you € 9 per person.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ To be honest: this rifugio was not one of my favorites. Although it’s well connected by the lift. The house is shabby and the food is ... well... just not good. The owner and staff were super friendly but had trouble with English and German. When hiking we usually lodge in traditional houses which care about environment and nature. This one certainly does not belong to them but is a tourist location.
The view and the surrounding is top notch though. The lift ride is amazing as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely little restaurant, with a fantastic view of the mountains from the terrace and a fantastic lake just across the road. You have the skying facilities also within walking distance. Beautiful place, if you're on the road, definitely stop for a drink and food
