Siamo rimasti in giro per due pomeriggi vaganti senza riuscire a visitare una sola chiesa, un solo monunento, abbiamo visto per sbaglio il duomo solo perché per nostra fortuna si stava celebrando un matrimonio. Mi dispiace, noi siciliani potremmo vivere solo di turismo ma è la testa che ci frega! It is inadmissible to keep everything closed in Mazara in the middle of September. We stayed around for two wandering afternoons without being able to visit a single church, a single monument, we saw the cathedral by mistake only because, luckily for us, a wedding was being celebrated. I'm sorry, we Sicilians could live only on tourism but it's the head that we care!

Da notare che sui muri interni e le colonne sono presenti copiose cicatrici di proiettili, tutti direzionati dall'esterno (sulla piazza) verso l'interno!! Truly special to be able to visit the ruins of this deconsecrated church. Note that on the inner walls and the columns are present copious scars of bullets, all directed from the outside (on the square) inwards !!

Oggi sopravvive solo la facciata barocca in pietra da intaglio, ma tanto basta per immaginare un passato glorioso. L’edificio sacro crollò nel 1933. Nell’ultimo trentennio della sua esistenza funse da Cattedrale, poi fu chiusa al culto e trasformata in sala per riunioni consiliari, cinema e sede di comizi elettorali. The ruins of the Church of Sant’Ignazio di Mazara del Vallo are all that remain of the ancient construction of the Jesuits, built in 1701 on the remains of a palace of the noble Adamo Mazara. Today only the Baroque stone carving facade survives, but that is enough to imagine a glorious past. The sacred building collapsed in 1933. In the last thirty years of its existence it served as a Cathedral, then it was closed to worship and transformed into a hall for council meetings, cinema and seat of electoral rallies.

Adesso si può visitare all'interno ma non essendo stata ripresa è rimasta come un relitto con tutti i suoi resti. Church built in 1700 then collapsed in 1933. Now you can visit inside but not having been taken it has remained as a wreck with all its remains.

Porous soft stone used to build this church made it's cupola crush under it's weight around 1933. To see the sky through a vertical walls of oval floorplan is an amazing opportunity for any architectural lover, specially if you are into baroque.
