Was für eine Schande. Aber der Besuch lohnt sich trotzdem
What a shame. But it's still worth a visit

Bellissima lunga passeggiata invernale tra i boschi dai resti dei due cadtelli di Attimis al ben conservato maniero di Faris
Beautiful long winter walk through the woods from the remains of the two cadets of Attimis to the well-preserved Faris manor

Abbiamo avuto la guida migliore che si potesse sperare. Passare al museo di Attimis e chiedere di Fabio.
We had the best guidance one could hope for. Switch to the Attimis museum and ask for Fabio.

Purtroppo decisamente poco valorizzato. Sentieri per una bella camminata, i ruderi potrebbero essere un attrazione turistica, ma la vegetazione copre tutto.
Unfortunately, definitely not much appreciated. Trails for a nice walk, the ruins could be a tourist attraction, but the vegetation covers everything.

Molto bello il castello superiore! (di quello inferiore non cè rimasto quasi niente). Per arrivare si prende la stradina che si trova in parte alla chiesetta del paese finché non si incontra il cartello con le indicazioni.
The upper castle is very beautiful! (of the lower one there is almost nothing left). To get there, take the small road that is partly in the small church of the town until you see the sign with the indications.

The two castles were first mention in a document dating all the way back to 1106. The document stated that the larger castle was owned by the powerful Moosburg family which donated the whole property to their niece Matilde and her husband Corrado. Their son, Voldarico, donated the castle, along with the villa at the base of the hill, the Partistagno castle and many other properties to the patriarch of Aquileia for "remission of sin". The remains of the castle are reachable by a path wondering through the thick woods. The walls have been partially cleaned up in the 1970s and some excavations are, as of now, still ongoing. The small and lower in elevation castle is more recent, as it was built in the second half of the 13th century. The presence of two different castles may have been been due to problems between the local nobility or simply to have another strategic place for reasons of security. It's unclear who was the first lord but around the end of the 13th century, a certain Purzitto d'Attems is mentioned. The small castle ruins have the remains of a very suggestive tower. In 1420 both castles are donated to the Republic of Venice. Various excavations have brought to light remains of pottery, weapons and other everyday tools that were common of the time. They are kept in the town's local museum. The many paths that wonder through the woods are very pleasant and offer nice views, especially when you get to a higher elevation. Both castles, as beautiful as they may be, are in dire need of a solid restoration effort as they are left to fend for themselves. Years and years of neglect and exposure to the elements have visibly degraded many parts of the structures and some parts of the paths are completely overgrown. I hope more care will be provided for the maintenance of this historic place.
