The castle of Montalbano is structured in two parts: one renovated and used as offices, the other with work in progress. Easily accessible by car. Not open to visitors.
L	Luciana D'Avanzo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Le origini del Castello di Colloredo di Monte Albano sono trecentesche e, fin dai primi tempi, costituì un tipico esempio di castello "residenziale", costruito per necessità difensive al centro del feudo quale stabile e sicura dimora. Famose le lotte dei signori del castello, i Colloredo, contro i patriarchi, i conti di Gorizia, i Camineri, i Savorgnan, i Torriani. Nel 1420 il complesso cadde nelle mani dei Veneziani; nel 1511 subì sia il noto saccheggio del giovedì grasso sia le distruzioni di un terremoto che sconvolse tutto il Friuli. Cessate le lotte feudali che caratterizzano tutto il corso del XVI secolo, i proprietari si dedicarono ad abbellire l'ormai vetusta dimora con le fastose eleganze del Rinascimento. Risalgono a quest'epoca le decorazioni di Giovanni da Udine, allievo del Raffaello, per il famoso studiolo del castello: oggi sono visibili interessanti lacerti con stucchi e pitture con figure zoo-antropomorfe. Prima del terremoto del 1976, il castello era costituito da un nucleo centrale, tre torri e due ali. Una triplice cinta di mura con perimetro ellittico è ancora avvertibile. Oggi, in attesa della ricostruzione dell'intero complesso, è visibile la torre con l'orologio e l'ala ovest, dove ha sede la Comunità Collinare del Friuli. The origins of the Castle of Colloredo di Monte Albano date back to the fourteenth century and, from the earliest times, it constituted a typical example of a "residential" castle, built for defensive needs in the center of the fiefdom as a stable and safe residence. Famous are the fights of the lords of the castle, the Colloredo, against the patriarchs, the counts of Gorizia, the Camineri, the Savorgnan, the Torriani. In 1420 the complex fell into the hands of the Venetians; in 1511 it suffered both the well-known sack of Shrove Thursday and the destruction of an earthquake that shook the whole of Friuli. Once the feudal struggles that characterized the entire course of the sixteenth century ceased, the owners dedicated themselves to embellishing the by now ancient residence with the sumptuous elegance of the Renaissance. The decorations by Giovanni da Udine, a pupil of Raphael, for the famous study of the castle date back to this period: today interesting fragments with stuccoes and paintings with zoo-anthropomorphic figures are visible. Before the 1976 earthquake, the castle consisted of a central core, three towers and two wings. A triple ring of walls with an elliptical perimeter is still noticeable. Today, awaiting the reconstruction of the entire complex, the tower with the clock and the west wing, where the Friuli Hill Community is located, is visible.

Molto bello, appena ristrutturato, dopo i danni che ha subito con il Terremoto del '76, il Castello ? di Colloredo di Monte Albano è splendido e svetta sulla collina con alle spalle la vista panoramica sulle PreAlpi Giulie ed Alpi Carniche. Questo maniero dalle origini trecentesche è molto imponente, e, fu uno dei più sontuosi castelli del Friuli, i cui fasti sono legati alla famiglia dei Colloredo, discendenti dei Mels. Da notare che non molto lontano ci sono due paesino Pers ed appunto Mels. Nel Cinquecento fu fatta costruire una lunga strada diritta con un saliscendi che in periferia di Pagnacco a Nord di Udine sale con un fascino unico verso il Castello ? con sempre in vista la Torre ed il Castello. Complimenti alla proloco per questa bellissima iniziativa La guida ci ha spiegato la storia e che fra tre anni si potrà visitarlo tutto.. Grande emozione perché mi ricorda la mia gioventù, ma anche tanta tristezza e dolore del 1976 , pensando a tutti i paesi colpiti. After 45 years the west part of the castle of Colloredo di Monte Albano was opened to the public. Congratulations to the proloco for this wonderful initiative The guide explained the history and that in three years it will be possible to visit it all .. Great emotion because it reminds me of my youth, but also so much sadness and pain of 1976, thinking of all the countries affected.
