Nice place with a lot of astrological frescoes. A bit expensive though

Must to visit in Padua! It has the largest roof unsupported by columns in Europe. The inside walls are covered with frescoes

The huge wooden horse on one side of the room is striking. I think it’s the largest medieval room. For those in padova,absolutely a stop to do.....

Located in the heart of Padova, the Palazzo della Ragione is a medieval town hall building. Really nice palace with great wiew on the square and another place in Padua that has to be seen.

This is a magnificent place... very similar to Palladio's Basilica in Vicenza, yet quite something else, considering the fact that it preserves all the stages of its extensions, and it is not tributary to any "superior architectural style". It is medieval in all its aspects, especially because of its eclectic aura. Also, the frescoes in the great hall are well preserved, while the monumental wooden horse is a piece to add even more enchantment and peculiarity to the vast room and its wooden roof. I visited the Palazzo with the ocassion of the exhibition on italian architect Aldo Rossi, "Aldo Rossi e la Ragione". I have to say that the exhibited pieces (drawings, sletches, models, objects) couldn't have stood better in another place... especially when we consider the fact that, for Aldo Rossi, the Palazzo was, what he would call, an archetypal "fatto urbano" par excellence.

The palace was built at the beginning of the 13th century and originally served as a court building in Padua. Along the open loggia on both sides are many dealers and around both squares we can experience daily market activity. All day on Saturdays and during the week in the morning, merchants exposing their wares here. The huge market around the Palazzo della Ragione is one of the biggest in northern Italy, and again reflects well the former glory of the free trading city of Padua. Inside the Palazzo della Ragione, a number of shops and stores are located on the ground floor. The large and magnificent hall on the first floor is completely painted with astrological and religious frescoes from the 15th century and is often used for exhibitions. Originally dedicated to the commerce of a wide selection of food, clothes, spices and jewels, it is today mostly active in the food and beverage sector. Another sight to visit in the palace is the "stone of shame" that once stood outside the courthouse and on which debtors were humiliated.
