In questo punto, vi è il sacro Fiume Almone, affluente del Tevere fin dall’antichità e a tutt’oggi interrato con un’opera di ingegneria idraulica imponente. Difatti il fiume scorreva nella valle della attuale circonvallazione Ostiense, per poi diramarsi nell’area dell’attuale Ponte Settimia Spizzichino e l’area della metro Garbatella. Oggi invece da questo punto le acque del fiume scompaiono, per non riapparire più a valle, presso la Basilica di San Paolo, ma a causa degli scarichi del quartiere che attraversa, la Garbatella, e il ponte di guado che si trova presso Piazza Biffi rappresenta una testimonianza storica del passaggio delle acque del sacro fiume nel sopracitato quartiere, oggi insomma, le sue acque sporche sono deviate al collettore di Roma Sud non potendo più essere riversate direttamente nel Tevere. Eppure l’Almone era il terzo corso più importante a livello di affluenza del fiume principale Tevere, dopo l’Aniene ovviamente. Il nome deriva da Almo derivato dal verbo alere - alimentare. Infatti il corso non a caso era considerato SACRO. Sacro perché le sue acque irrigavano le valli e le coltivazioni e garantivano, a seconda della abbondanza delle acque o meno, coltivazioni rigogliose, benessere e cibo. Dunque vita. Recandosi in questo punto è possibile ammirare l’opera idraulica ma soprattutto ascoltare l’imponenza delle acque captate... osservare la vegetazione tipica di un ambiente fluviale mescolarsi, voltandosi di spalle, con le costruzioni borghesi...i ciottoli della circonvallazione ardeatina, i pini romani...
