Presso questo ponte si svolse, probabilmente, la Battaglia di Benevento tra Carlo d'Angiò e Manfredi di Svevia. Ed è probabile che proprio qui fu sepolto il re svevo, dopo la sconfitta in battaglia. Il ponte è oggi circondato da un'area industriale che ne ha mortificato la collocazione. Roman bridge built on the Calore river, in the second century, for the transit of the Via Appia Traiana. Purtroppo ormai da tempo il ponte giace in uno stato di totale abbandono nel menefreghismo delle istituzioni. Una classe politica indecente e irrispettosa della propria storia vi ha costruito intorno un'area industriale, che per ironia della sorte prende il nome proprio dal ponte. Meriterebbe certamente ben altra attenzione e rispetto.
