★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Maggiore risale al XIV secolo, epoca in cui il borgo di Sant'Angelo a Fasanella si ampliò determinando il suo epicentro nel quartiere "Dentro la Terra". La vicinanza al castello risultò molto significativa per la popolazione; fu simbolo, infatti, della cooperazione tra potere civile e religioso.
Si presenta con una facciata molto semplice, dove ad imporsi è il portale marmoreo, sorvegliato da due leoni sempre in marmo.
Entrando, i canoni rinascimentali si ritrovano nelle tre navate concluse da 5 colonne, che evidenziano l'altare principale.
Nella volta a botte, si può notare il dipinto raffigurante la gloria di Maria insieme alle quattro virtù cardinali: Giustizia, Fortezza, Prudenza e Temperanza.
The Parish Church of Santa Maria Maggiore dates back to the 14th century, when the village of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella expanded, determining its epicenter in the "Dentro la Terra" district. The proximity to the castle was very significant for the population; it was a symbol, in fact, of the cooperation between civil and religious power.
It has a very simple facade, where the marble portal stands out, guarded by two marble lions.
Upon entering, the Renaissance canons are found in the three naves concluded by 5 columns, which highlight the main altar.
In the barrel vault, you can see the painting depicting the glory of Mary together with the four cardinal virtues: Justice, Fortitude, Prudence and Temperance.
