More beautiful outside than inside. It has historical parts to see, but not particularly relevant compared to much else to see in Ravenna.

La chiesa fu costruita nel V secolo, anche se l'attuale aspetto è dovuto ai restauri degli inizi del Novecento con i quali la chiesa riacquistò le sue forme originali paleocristianeLa chiesa originaria aveva il pavimento a circa 2,50 metri al disotto dell'attuale. Al posto dell'attuale giardino, un tempo cimitero, antistante la facciata della chiesa, si trovava un quadriportico, demolito nel Cinquecento per far posto al campanile, nel quale si aprivano le tre porte della chiesa (sono ancora visibili gli architravi delle due porte laterali, ora interrate). Sempre nel giardino, si trovano dei pezzi di colonne, forse proprio quelle del quadriportico. Oggi era aperta (10/01/2022), ne è valsa la pena, bello il leggio in Carrara monoblocco e la copertura in legno. It had been a while since I was passing by I wanted to enter to see it but it was always closed. Today it was open (10/01/2022), it was worth it, the one-piece Carrara lectern and the wooden roof are beautiful.
T	Tiziana Botteri on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ...la basilica di Sant'Agata Maggiore è una delle chiese più antiche di Ravenna!!!...si trova proprio nel centro della città a pochi passi dalla basilica di San Francesco e dalla tomba di Dante!!!...sono passata una prima volta e era chiusa...poi ci sono ripassata la domenica e l'ho trovata aperta!!...per cui ho potuto anche vedere l'interno!!!...si presenta a tre navate...si possono ammirare gli altari di Sant'Agata e della Madonna del Buonconsiglio!!!...nella navata laterale destra di fronte al pulpito...appoggiato alla parete...si trova l'organo a canne!!!!..lungo le pareti e i due pilastri dell'arcone...vi sono otto antichi sarcofagi di epoca e fattura diverse!!!...con delle lastre appese alle pareti!!!...il campanile circolare si trova in parte alla facciata!!!...sicuramente merita una visita anche questa Basilica a Ravenna!!! ... the basilica of Sant'Agata Maggiore is one of the oldest churches in Ravenna !!! ... it is located right in the city center a few steps from the basilica of San Francesco and Dante's tomb !!! ...
