Menzionata in falsi documenti dell'VIII secolo è sicuramente certa la sua esistenza nella seconda metà del IX, ma di certo vanta radici più antiche grazie anche ad un sarcofago e ad una iscrizione murata su una colonna entrambi di età romana, probabilmente resti di vestigia precedenti di un sacello campestre sul sito o prossimo all'attuale luogo dove sorge adesso il complesso. Una lunga e profonda storia avvolge il complesso che mai è stato indagato archeologicamente: sicuramente accrescerebbe le notizie su questo edificio gettando luce sulle sue origini. Profondamente trasformata nel corso dei secoli in particolar modo tra il XVI e il XVIII di cui sono ancora visibili gli interventi interni come quelli esterni. Del complesso romanico di X-XI secolo resta la costruzione a tre navate conclusa da tre absidi. Il campanile datato al XII secolo con rimaneggiamenti nella parte superiore di epoca più tarda. La cripta sotto l'altare doveva apparire ben diversa dal piccolo ambiente attuale. Affascinante. One of the oldest, if not the oldest parish church in the Florentine countryside. Mentioned in false documents of the eighth century, its existence is certainly certain in the second half of the IX, but certainly it boasts more ancient roots thanks to a sarcophagus and an inscription walled on a column both of Roman age, probably remains of previous vestiges of a rural chapel on the site or next to the current place where the complex now stands. A long and deep history envelops the complex that has never been investigated archaeologically: it would certainly increase the news on this building by shedding light on its origins. Deeply transformed over the centuries especially between the XVI and XVIII of which the internal interventions as the external ones are still visible. Of the X-XI century Romanesque complex remains the three-nave construction completed by three apses. The bell tower dated to the 12th century with remodeling in the upper part of a later period. The crypt under the altar must have looked very different from the small current environment. Charming.
