The great beauty of what could be is counterbalanced by the absolute state of abandonment on the part of the Municipality ... It could represent a very important piece of history, in a wonderful sea setting, it could be one of the places with the greatest tourist potential ... It could ... It would be ... But unfortunately it is not !!! What to say!!! Going from there you can only look with regret at what little has been found, abandoned to weeds and fenced with wire ... And maybe take some photos of the moon that illuminates a part in the middle of the night ...

Posto meraviglioso, parcheggio disponibile.
Wonderful place, parking available. Sea coast and definitely in my opinion more 'beautiful of the renowned dry point. Ideal for those who want to relax and spend days by the sea and with nature. Great for groups and families with children. Surely location 'least known of Ragusa but it deserves' more' attention.

New opening from July 2021. Late antique village, with basilica church, and remains of the village. Among the things to remember, the departure for the Crusade in the Holy Land of General Belisario, right from the port of Kaukana (Punta Secca?). In the small church there are some really interesting mosaics and decorations on the earthen tombs

There isn't a great deal of info to read in English. It is an area that has historical worth but most of it is fenced off.

Fascinating historical site, in a small village on the south eastern coast, about 10km west of Marina de Ragusa. The site is currently only open on Sundays, manned by volunteers. When we visited, couldn't find anyone on site to ask for help interpreting the site. There is just 1 information panel and leaflet - only in Italian. So had to rely on my limited Italian and research I'd done on the web site prior to my visit. The information panel, alongside the basilica, has a legend showing each main building visible and the flora growing on the site. The site is about 2 acres and full of excavated Roman buildings, including a basilica with mosaics and tombs. This area is the main focal point of the site, partly protected by a roof. There is still much excavation work to be done, including sections outside the main compound, bordering the sea front, some of which looks threatened by erosion from the sea. There is one main concrete path, otherwise you can walk around and into the various buildings. The site ground is sand with vegetation growing in it. There are mature trees, offering welcome shade. There is a small lay by just outside the gate where you can park. It's worth visiting, although read up on the site beforehand to understand the sites importance and antiquity.
