★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Questo portale medioevale si trova in un piccolo patio all’interno del Palazzo De Leva, a Modica Bassa, un antico edificio nobiliare. Originariamente faceva parte della struttura di un edifico religioso: si pensa fosse la porta d’ingresso di una chiesetta, dedicata ai santi Filippo e Giacomo, come si evince dalla presenza di una piccola finestra circolare che sormonta il portale, probabile sede di un rosone, tipico ornamento ecclesiastico.
La chiesa, sopravvissuta al sisma del 1693, venne successivamente inglobata nel settecentesco palazzo della nobile famiglia De Leva, divenendone la cappella privata. Lo stile del portale è detto chiaramontano dalla nobile famiglia siciliana dei Chiaramonte, Conti di Modica dal 1296 al 1392, che diedero un forte impulso alla costruzione di edifici civili e religiosi.
This medieval portal is located in a small patio inside the Palazzo De Leva, in Modica Bassa, an ancient noble building. Originally it was part of the structure of a religious building: it is thought to be the entrance door of a small church, dedicated to Saints Philip and James, as evidenced by the presence of a small circular window that surmounts the portal, probably the site of a rose window. typical ecclesiastical ornament.
The church, which survived the earthquake of 1693, was subsequently incorporated into the eighteenth-century palace of the noble De Leva family, becoming its private chapel. The style of the portal is called chiaramontano by the noble Sicilian family of Chiaramonte, Counts of Modica from 1296 to 1392, who gave a strong impulse to the construction of civil and religious buildings.
