★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L’elegante palazzo sede dell’arcivescovado conserva, su di un fianco, una torre merlata in laterizio risalente al 1470, decorata da archetti pensili impreziositi da coppelle in maiolica policroma. La torre fu fatta erigere dal Vescovo Colantonio Valignani.
L’odierna struttura dell’edificio è frutto dei lavori di ampliamento e restauro susseguitisi dal seicento fino agli anni ’30 del novecento.
Da notare la scala marmorea di accesso fatta realizzare tra il 1792 e il 1795 dal vescovo Ambrogio Mirelli.
La corte interna ospita i locali sede dell’Archivio Arcivescovile dove sono custoditi preziosi ed antichi documenti.
The elegant palace which houses the archbishopric preserves, on one side, a crenellated brick tower dating back to 1470, decorated with hanging arches embellished with polychrome majolica panes. The tower was built by Bishop Colantonio Valignani.
The current structure of the building is the result of the expansion and restoration works that followed from the seventeenth century until the 1930s.
Note the marble access staircase built between 1792 and 1795 by Bishop Ambrogio Mirelli.
The internal courtyard houses the premises of the Archiepiscopal Archive where precious and ancient documents are kept.
