★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Entrando su piazza San Lorenzo, disposto sulla sinistra, il caratteristico Palazzetto di Valentino della Pagnotta vi lascerà impressionati. Peccato sia sede di in negozio di souvenir.
Il Palazzetto di Valentino della Pagnotta, che risale al XIII secolo, è un caratteristico esempio dell’architettura medievale. Costruito in pietra, si presenta con forme armoniche che richiamano l’eleganza del palazzo dei papi. L’arco è il protagonista di questa struttura, sia nella dimensione costruttiva che ornamentale. Al piano inferiore del Palazzetto la facciata è scandita da due archi a tutto sesto, sorretti da un pilastro centrale e due semicolonne laterali, tutti con capitelli a crochet. Sopra ai capitelli si inserisce una cornice marcapiano, sorretta da mensole, e due caratteristiche bifore gotiche che richiamano lo stile della Loggia dei Papi.
Il Palazzetto porta il nome di Valentino della Pagnotta, facoltoso agricoltore eletto Priore della Città nel 1458.
Nel corso dei secoli il Palazzetto è andato incontro a numerosi interventi e modifiche ma, con un importante restauro nel 1920, la struttura è stata riportata alla sua originaria forma duecentesca. Il Palazzetto rappresenta oggi uno dei migliori esempi dell’architettura medievale di Viterbo

The Palazzetto di Valentino della Pagnotta, which dates back to the thirteenth century, is a characteristic example of medieval architecture. Built in stone, it has harmonious shapes that recall the elegance of the palace of the popes. The arch is the protagonist of this structure, both in the constructive and ornamental dimension. On the lower floor of the Palazzetto the façade is marked by two round arches, supported by a central pillar and two lateral semi-columns, all with crochet capitals. Above the capitals a string course frame is inserted, supported by shelves, and two characteristic Gothic mullioned windows that recall the style of the Loggia dei Papi.
The Palazzetto bears the name of Valentino della Pagnotta, a wealthy farmer who was elected Prior of the City in 1458.
Over the centuries, the Palazzetto has undergone numerous interventions and modifications but, with an important restoration in 1920, the structure has been restored to its original thirteenth-century shape. The Palazzetto today represents one of the best examples of medieval architecture in Viterbo
