★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Italian cuisine is not just about pizza and tagliatelle alla ragú. We got to La Sol Fa for our last evening in Rome to get a taste of real Roman cuisine and we were not dissapointed. We were lucky as well to get a place opposite to the bar without reservation, not a regular table but nice comfortable enough, maybe more than the crowded tables which are staple for restaurants in italy.
My wife ordered carbonara, she just loves it and the bowl she got was flawless, the best carbonara I ever tasted. My pasta vas simple al amatricana and again - I have never had pasta this good even with several weeks spent in Italy over the last few years.
Then came the crown jewel - Coda alla Vaccinara (guess I am too squeemish for tripe) - the meat was falling off the bones, the suace was rich and tangy and I mopped the last drop of it with bread. And god was I full. Even the pasta may have been enough for dinner. The bib and wet towel were nice touch.
The meal was not cheap, nor it was expected to be cheap. Two bowls of superb pasta and plate of meat with bread, water and half a liter house wine was about 45 euros. I dont spend that much usually but I was happy with it. The meals were perfect and the service was outstanding. I have never seen servers in Italy to move so fast. It was a dance. As tourist I didnt feel like we were intruding (too much) but the crowd was definitely local and thats probably the best recommendation you can get - if its good enough for locals, its perfect for anyone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful to be warmly welcomed and served delicious food after a long travel day. The owner and servers were warm and helpful, took the time to explain the menu, and seemed genuine in their passion for excellent food and service. The dishes were fantastic - al dente pasta, generous use of truffles, fall off the bone oxtail slow cooked for 6 hours, and a cold tripe entree that made us want to lick the plate. Not to mention exceptional Tiramisu. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Have eaten here at least 5 times over the last 2 weeks. My Italian fella brought me here as he used to be a regular years ago. He said still one of the best authentic Roman restaurants. It has been the best bowls of pasta I have had ever! Will try the non pasta dishes next time as they looked & smelt delicious. Super yummy restaurant!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Honestly stop searching Google for recommendations and just come here! Real traditional Rome food, passionately explained by the server. Really accomodating and thoughtful. We ended up trying three pasta dishes between 2 and they split the very generous portions into two plates and brought them out one by one for us. They were immense! Could not ask for more, will recommend to any friends coming to visit. Approx 45 euro for a glass of wine each, water and 3 dishes.
The wine was not our favourite but that's all I can say that is remotely negative!
