★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I went there last Sunday for lunch. We got there late and all the tables were full at that moment (they could only sit 24 people due to COVID regulations) but the gentleman manning the floor told us to wait for 10 minutes as a table already had their desserts and might be on their way out. We did wait and they were able to give us a table 10 minutes before they were finishing their lunch service. They were very accommodating and listed was was still available and what was not and gave us some recommendations that we gladly followed. And boy, what a treat that was!
We had the mixed starter plate for two, which was a fabulous mix of various small dishes, served with polenta and a home-made garlic, basil and olive oil sauce. We then had the fish soup, which is, without any doubt, the best fish soup I ever had, and the tuna steak, cooked to perfection. We also had two glasses of a local, lightly sparking white wine which ideally complemented our meal. To sum up, great food, great service, great price. If we were to live in Trieste, this would definitely be our local!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The owner does not need to impress you with stylish dishware or stylish interior design, because he will definitely impress you with friendly and hearty attitude, with high quality fish food and with adequate pricing. We did have a nice Assortimenti of the Antipasti, a great mussle soup with beans and local pasta with fish and than grilled sardines and squid the great vine to the food did came in a traditional jug and we both did close with a great grappa for the way home. All in all highly recommended for people who look for local authentic places and food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited this restaurant twice and both times the food was, no exaggeration, exquisite. Unpretentious simple dishes with intense flavors. Tried various grilled fish, sea food antipasti, as well as their unique thick soups. All of it deeply satisfying.
The place is located away from over-touristed areas of Trieste and run by a small dedicated family staff whose personality and character permeates the place (and informs its quirky decor). Their dishes are deeply rooted in regional cuisine and traditions.
Well worth a visit. Booking ahead recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a hidden characteristic little family restaurant that has been in business forever. The owner, Robi, is originally from Istria. This influenced his cooking style. You can see it in the menu with dishes like the "fusi" which is a traditional istrian kind of pasta. Robi's fish suppliers wouldn't even bother showing him old, or second quality fish. If it's not the best, there's no way he would buy it! To make it short: at the Voliga you'll eat great fresh fish at reasonable price in a characteristic little old fashion restaurant. A cultural jump back in time, tasting old traditions. I strongly recommend it!
