Very romantic and cozy atmosphere! The waitress was very helpful and found us a table right away even without a reservation. Phenomenal dishes, all delicious and fresh from appetizers to desserts! The octopus with mashed potatoes and olives is highly recommended: it melts in your mouth!

The osteria del Borgo in Galliate in the province of Novara is a small place (no more than 25/30 seats) a stone's throw from Piazza Vittorio Veneto where the beautiful Sforzesco castle is located. I go there in the company of a friend who loves good food, with the idea of ​​trying some seafood dishes for which the place is known. We are seated at our table by an efficient waiter perhaps a little overly formal. The place is well cared for and welcoming; the bathrooms are tidy and clean; the menu that is delivered to us is contained in the number of courses and basically proposes two courses of sea and two of land both for the appetizers and for the first courses as well as for the second courses. Unfortunately, as for other restaurants, the courses are not very detailed and a choice is difficult nor the staff is of much help to clarify doubts and facilitate the decision. Despite this problem, we opt for 2 crispy octopus bites on potato cream with extra virgin olive oil and bread crumble, 2 steamed Venere rice with gratinated prawn tails and aubergine caponata and, respectively, 1 turbot skewer in panko bread, grilled vegetables. grill and tartar sauce and 1 "au gratin from the tavern" all accompanied with a bottle of Vermentino "la vecchia cantina" and concluded with 2 coffees. The bill? € 123.00 in 2. The cost for a fish-based dinner is average, but the courses have no bite: plate up and served well, prepared even better, but without personality. I will be challenged that what I call lack of character is instead the lightness and delicacy of the preparation, therefore a value and not a defect, but I do not feel the taste of the sea and, the au gratin of the tavern does not differ (if not for the accompanying vegetables beautifully prepared) from a packaged dish from large retailers. In addition to this, even if I am certainly not a "glutton" I found the portions a bit narrow. The chef certainly shows that he puts his passion and commitment into it, but I'm not sure, at least for my taste, he's going in the right direction. From the social networks I see that the menu is periodically changed (and also from this you can see the chef's passion): perhaps this was not in my hearts, perhaps I did not understand it and perhaps it was not the most loved by the kitchen so I plan to try again the osteria del Borgo to the next menu.
