O ingresso é bem barato - algo como 2 ou 3 euros - e vale muito a visita. Located inside the castle of Melfi (one of the most preserved and important medieval buildings in southern Italy) the museum tells through found pieces and archaeological excavations how the people of the region lived from the Paleolithic period to the Roman period. The ticket is very cheap - something like 2 or 3 euros - and it is well worth the visit.

A piano terra invece vi sono due splendidi Sarcofagi del secondo secolo dopo Cristo... Meravigliosi. Exceptional museum, it tells the history of the Vulture before the Roman conquest. Ci sono anche una serie di ceramiche su fondo nero e degli eleganti quanto inusuali fermatrecce in oro. Valid archaeological museum whose best pieces are the funeral objects and in particular the two sarcophagi (including the very famous one in Rapolla) from the first centuries after Christ. There are also a series of ceramics on a black background and some elegant and unusual gold braid clips.

Al suo interno vi sono pezzi unici, ed è possibile ammirare inoltre l'ingresso di una tomba greca accuratamente ricostruito in una sala del museo. Di sicuro il pezzo forte resta il meraviglioso sarcofago femminile romano di splendida fattura che accoglie i visitatori nella prima sala a questo dedicata. One of the most beautiful archaeological museums in Italy. Inside there are unique pieces, and it is also possible to admire the entrance to a carefully reconstructed Greek tomb in a room of the museum. Certainly the highlight remains the wonderful Roman female sarcophagus of splendid workmanship that welcomes visitors in the first room dedicated to this.

Capisco che il periodo di pandemia non permette visite, ma il vecchio custode che vedendomi salire sulla rampa mi chiude lentamente il portone in faccia senza profferir parola, dimostra quanto la città sia refrattaria all'accoglienza. In fin dei conti forse fanno bene così: i turisti possono essere una risorsa, ma portano anche un sacco di problemi, meglio tenerli alla larga. Unfortunately closed due to covid. I sarcofagi tolgono il fiato ed il percorso ti fa capire quanta "vita" c'era in quella zona. Il costo del biglietto è irrisorio, inoltre c'è il "cumulativo" con il Museo Archeologico e gli scavi di Venosa che può essere utilizzato entro 3 giorni e costa 4 Euro. I minorenni entrano gratis. Nice museum, where you can see a piece of the history of the Vulture, set up inside the Castle. The sarcophagi take your breath away and the path makes you understand how much "life" there was in that area. The cost of the ticket is negligible, besides there is the "cumulative" ticket with the Archaeological Museum and the excavations of Venosa which can be used within 3 days and costs 4 Euros. Minors enter for free.

La mostra è molto bella, ci sono dei pezzi davvero particolari. Si riesce a fare anche senza una guida grazie alla cartellonistica chiara e puntuale, posta vicino agli oggetti esposti. Vale davvero la pena vederlo! Il prezzo del biglietto intero è 2,50€. The Museum is located inside the Castle of Melfi. Well maintained, anti covid measures respected. The exhibition is very beautiful, there are some really special pieces. It is possible to do this even without a guide thanks to the clear and punctual signs placed near the objects on display. It is really worth seeing! The full ticket price is € 2.50.
