Oltre a controllare le attività delle campagne dall'eremitica Valle Orsaria e della linea difensiva, "Massa di Sorbetulo" ( Strerleto, Caudino, Palazzo, Montefortino, Ripalta , ecc.) serviva inoltre, come torre d'Avvistamento sul confine del Ducato Longobardo di Spoleto. Sotto di esso si estendeva il rivale Esarcato Bizantino di Ravenna. Con la riunificazione Avvenuta per opera di Carlo Magno, tale funzione perse di utilità, perché il re dei Franchi donò al Papa Leone III , sia Spoleto che Ravenna ottenendo il titolo di Imperatore Romano. Arcevia divenne parte della pentapoli bizantina. Attorno ad esso non sono rari insediamenti Celtici dall'Eneolitico Etruschi e Romani. Per ultimo ma più importante... Monte Sant'Angelo o Camilliano. Dedicato all'Arcanelo Michele protettore dei Longobardi, oltre che della Polizia stradale e motociclisti, perciò vi hanno posto un monumento di Bruno d'Arcevia.si trovava al centro della Via longobarda "Micaelitica" Che dalla Cornovaglia giungeva al Monte Carmelo toccando i luoghi dedicati a ll'Arcangelo; Mont San Michel, Lucca e il Gargano. Vicino all'abbazia si trova il monumento in bronzo, realizzato da Bruno d'Arcevia dedicato ai “Caduti della Polizia”.
