★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il monumento in bronzo ricorda la bambina ritrovata dai soldati inglesi sulla spiaggia di Anzio, durante lo sbarco del gennaio del 1944. Inizialmente accolta tra i soldati e chiamata Angelita, durante i bombardamenti da parte dell'artiglieria Tedesca, morì insieme alla crocerossina che la accudiva. Riproduce una bimba che libera dei gabbiani in volo.
The bronze monument commemorates the little girl found by English soldiers on the beach of Anzio, during the landing in January 1944. Initially welcomed among the soldiers and called Angelita, during the bombing by the German artillery, she died together with the Red Cross nurse who looked after her . It reproduces a little girl who releases seagulls in flight.

Negli anni Settanta le fu dedicata una statua sulla Riviera Mallozzi, in ricordo di tutti i bambini vittime della guerra. Secondo la leggenda, il 29 gennaio del 1944, Angelita rimase ferita all’addome dallo scoppio di una bomba e fu caricata su una jeep da due soldati americani per essere portata in un ospedale da campo. Dopodiché non si seppe più nulla, né di lei, né dei militari coraggiosi che l’avevano soccorsa.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ È una scultura che di per sé nel vederla non evoca molte emozioni. Ben diversa è la leggenda che avvolge la motivazione di questo monumento! Consiglio di cercarla su internet e prendersi il tempo di leggerla. Bello anche il lungomare che dista pochi passi dal monumento.
It is a sculpture that in itself does not evoke many emotions when seeing it. The legend that surrounds the grounds of this monument is quite different! I recommend looking for it on the internet and taking the time to read it. The promenade which is a few steps from the monument is also beautiful.
