Io sono stato con delle guide alpine tra le gole e c hanno dato una spiegazione dettagliata del monastero, della sua importanza storica, della sua struttura esistente e di quella che c era quando era un posto d culto che poteva ospitare fino a 100 monaci e pellegrini. Sommerso fino a pochi anni fa da materiale trasportato dalla montagna e portato alla luce dopo lavori di restauro. Durante l anno s svolgono anche attività al suo interno come fiaccolate, visite etc etc inoltre senza fare molto rumore c'è la possibilità di avvistare i camosci sulle rocce circostanti.

Ruins of a monastery lost in the mountains! In itself the sanctuary is not that great but the path between the gorges and the valley that opens afterwards is breathtaking!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Petra d'Abruzzo anche se facilmente raggiungibile l'escursione al Monastero è stata veramente un'esperienza indimenticabile. Un percorso quasi mistico. Dopo un passeggiata tra la bellezza delle Gole ecco che all'improvviso si svela questo monastero benedettino. Spero che il sito venga sempre più valorizzato. Noi abbiamo fatto l'escursione notturna con le guide del gruppo Majellando.
La Petra d'Abruzzo, although easily accessible, the excursion to the Monastery was truly an unforgettable experience. An almost mystical journey. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L’Abbazia di San Martino in Valle è un'abbazia benedettina in rovina in prossimità delle Gole di Fara San Martino a Fara San Martino in provincia di Chieti. Le origini dell’abbazia non sono note. Le prime fonti storiche risalgono al 829 che la elencano tra i possedimenti del monastero di Santo Stefano in Lucania di Tornareccio, al quale era stato donato da Pipino il Breve. Si raggiungono salendo dalle sorgenti e percorrendo le strette Gole di Fara San Martino. Sono recintate da un muretto ma molto visibili dall'esterno. È un luogo pieno di storia che va sicuramente visitato.
The Abbey of San Martino in Valle is a ruined Benedictine abbey near the Gorges of Fara San Martino in Fara San Martino in the province of Chieti. The origins of the abbey are not known. The first historical sources date back to 829 which list it among the possessions of the monastery of Santo Stefano in Lucania di Tornareccio, to which it had been donated by Pipino the Short. They can be reached by climbing from the springs and along the narrow Gorges of Fara San Martino. They are enclosed by a low wall but very visible from the outside. It is a place full of history that is definitely worth visiting.

Si raggiunge in pochi minuti a piedi salendo dalla sorgente del Fiume Verde e passando dalle Gole di San Martino
Il Monastero é recintato ma ben visibile anche dall'esterno, e dall'alto proseguendo sul sentiero. L'accesso al sentiero é gratuito, mentre a pagamento si può fare la visita con la guida al Monastero
Continuando lungo il sentiero sono presenti vari trekking, come quello che in 6 ore porta in vetta al Monte Amaro, il sentiero H1

It can be reached in a few minutes on foot by climbing from the source of the Verde River and passing through the Gorges of San Martino
The Monastery is fenced but also clearly visible from the outside, and from above continuing on the path. Access to the path is free, while for a fee you can visit the Monastery with a guide

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Le rovine del monastero di San Martino in Valle si raggiungono passando attraverso le suggestive gole di Fara, dopo una breve e agevole passeggiata (10 minuti circa) ?. I resti della struttura mostrano una discreta estensione e si collocano in un'area circondata da imponenti pareti rocciose ?. Peccato che l'accesso all'interno della costruzione sia interdetto ? in questo periodo, tuttavia, l'altopiano adiacente permette di avere comunque una vista a 360°, dall'alto. Nonostante la parte più interessante dell'escursione coinvolga quest'area, si può proseguire il sentiero salendo di quota ?.
Sicuramente uno dei posti più belli d'Abruzzo. ✅️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great for climbing! Lot of 6+ climbs but this wall is almost all 5's. Shade most of the day. It's just beautiful scenery. Reminds me of Petra, especially near the entrance.
