La tradizione vuole che il nome della Chiesa sia dovuto al ritrovamento di una statua lignea della Madonna della Pietà, che sarebbe stata rinvenuta nei boschi limitrofi. Dopo il ritrovamento il Santuario sarebbe così stato intitolato alla Vergine. Sanctuary Madonna della Selva retains its oldest part in the main chapel (14th - 15th century), while the front porch dates back to the 16th century, to which the oratory of the Flagellants was added in 1578. Tradition has it that the name of the church is due to the discovery of a wooden statue of the Madonna della Pietà, which would have been found in the neighboring woods. After the discovery, the Sanctuary was thus entitled to the Virgin.

Ospita affreschi di pregio sulla parete nord, un bel crocifisso ligneo e la statua della pietà. Alla creazione della Comunità Pastorale, nel 2008, venne scelto di attribuirle il nome del Santuario mariano. Splendid Sanctuary, the oldest religious building in all of Fagnano. It owes its name to a legend. It houses valuable frescoes on the north wall, a beautiful wooden crucifix and the statue of piety. When the Pastoral Community was created in 2008, it was chosen to give it the name of the Marian Shrine.
