Oggi costituisce l'ultima parte sopravvissuta per intero della Reggia Carrarese, la grande residenza dei Da Carrara, signori di Padova. Il complesso della Reggia, fatto costruire fra il 1339 e il 1343, comprendeva un Palazzo di ponente (più antico) e un Palazzo di levante. collegati fra loro mediante un edificio centrale e con un ampio cortile interno, che corrispondeva grossomodo all'odierna piazza Capitaniato. Dal Palazzo di ponente partiva il cosiddetto traghetto alle mura, un passaggio sopraelevato, percorribile anche a cavallo, che univa la Reggia alla cinta muraria e alla Torlonga. Questo permetteva al Signore un più facile spostamento, ma anche una maggior possibilità di fuga in caso di pericolo. Nel corso dei secoli, il complesso degli edifici della Reggia ha subito un inevitabile degrado con demolizioni e modifiche, e il fronte della loggia è l'unica struttura rimasta quasi intatta. Caratterizzata da snelle colonne in marmo rosa di Verona disposte su due livelli, la loggia fu realizzata su disegno di Domenico da Firenze. Nelle stanze retrostanti, sede dell'antica cappella privata (oggi sala delle adunance), si trovano alcuni affreschi del Guariento raffiguranti episodi biblici. Un'ala della loggia fu demolita nel 1877 dall'architetto Camillo Boito per fare posto all'adiacente scuola elementare. La Loggia è tuttora sede dell'Accademia Galileiana di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti. Nelle sue sale è esposta la famosa mappa di Padova realizzata da Giovanni Valle nel 1784. The Loggia dei Carraresi is a Paduan building. Today it constitutes the last surviving part of the Reggia Carrarese, the great residence of the Da Carrara, lords of Padua. The complex of the Reggia, built between 1339 and 1343, included a Palazzo di ponente (older) and a Palazzo di levante. connected to each other through a central building and with a large internal courtyard, which roughly corresponded to today's Piazza Capitaniato. The so-called ferry to the walls left from the Palazzo di Ponente, an elevated passage, which can also be traveled on horseback, which linked the Royal Palace to the city walls and Torlonga. This allowed the Lord an easier movement, but also a greater possibility of escape in case of danger. Over the centuries, the complex of the buildings of the Royal Palace has undergone an inevitable degradation with demolitions and modifications, and the front of the loggia is the only structure that has remained almost intact. Characterized by slender columns in pink Verona marble arranged on two levels, the loggia was built on a design by Domenico da Firenze. In the rear rooms, seat of the ancient private chapel (today the meeting room), there are some frescoes by Guariento depicting biblical episodes. Mutilata in seguito alle molteplici variazioni d'uso degli ambienti, l'opera occupa una sola parete della sala con l'eccezione di due lacerti che sono stati staccati ed esposti sulla parete opposta. Apertura assicurata dai volontari di Legambiente di Padova, nell'ambito del programma Salvalarte. Verificare sul sito dell'Accademia l'eventuale sospensione delle visite per manifestazioni o festività. Bagno al piano ammezzato, alla fine della prima rampa di scale. Siamo stati nella Loggia dei carraresi con la guida che ci ha portato indietro nel 1300 quando la residenza dei carraresi era costituita da un complesso di edifici per la maggior parte non più esistenti. Ma fortunatamente non tutto è stato perduto...sono arrivati fino a noi gli affreschi del Guariento!!! Padua and its beauties to be discovered. We were in the Loggia dei Carraresi with the guide who took us back to 1300 when the Carraresi residence was made up of a complex of buildings for the most part no longer existing. But fortunately not all has been lost ... the frescoes by Guariento have come down to us !!!

Per la nostra fortuna siamo capitati su una guida molto appassionata e competente che ci ha fatto un tour completo e interessante sull’insieme dei dipinti (grazie a lei!!). Raccomando assolutamente per completare il ciclo di affreschi padovani!! A hidden pearl of frescoes from the mid-fourteenth century that have been preserved until today, even if a part has unfortunately been lost. Fortunately for us, we came across a very passionate and competent guide who gave us a complete and interesting tour of all the paintings (thanks to her !!). I absolutely recommend to complete the Paduan fresco cycle !!

Gli affreschi recuperati dai restauri sono veramente dei capolavori. La visita secondo me deve essere fatta con una guida per poter meglio apprezzare il luogo. Very nice monument. It is a pity that so little of the majestic medieval residence has been saved. The frescoes recovered from the restorations are truly masterpieces. In my opinion, the visit must be done with a guide in order to better appreciate the place.
