N	Nicola Bellini on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situato all’estremità sud dell’Umbria, al confine con il Lazio, stretto tra i monti Luco e Caperno, è il più grande della regione dopo il Trasimeno. Il bacino presenta una forma irregolare e proprio da ciò deriva uno sviluppo di sponda considerevole di circa 13 km, rispetto alla superficie che è di soli 1,52 kmq. Collocato a circa 370 mt slm, il lago in corrispondenza dell’abitato raggiunge la massima profondità di circa 20 mt. Pochissimi, comunque, i punti in cui le acque non superano i 12. Tra i maggiori immissari il Rio Fuscello che origina dal versante orientale del Tillia, gli altri due sono canali artificiali. Il lago di Piediluco, assieme a quelli piccoli della piana ratina, è quanto rimane dell’antico Lacus Velinus, di origine alluvionale, formatosi a partire dal Quaternario come conseguenza delle vicende oroidrografiche riguardanti i fiumi Nera e Velino. Si è ipotizzato che nel periodo della sua massima estensione il lago Velino abbia ricoperto la quasi totalità della piana reatina, spingendosi sino al ciglione delle Marmore. Il LAGO di PIEDILUCO ti rimane nel cuore dopo che lo hai visto. Gli scorci che si palesano prima di entrare nel paese già ne svelano la bellezza. Il borgo, raccolto ai piedi del monte Luco, si affaccia sul lago, il suo lago. Tra i due c’è un legame stretto ed antichissimo. Sulla sommità del monte Luco si erge la possente Rocca che nel Medioevo presidiava il territorio. Ora impone la sua presenza. Da qui lo sguardo domina una vista ineguagliabile: il lago, con la sua forma bizzarra e i suoi bracci allungati, appare incastonato tra verdi rilievi e vallate che compongono un paesaggio meraviglioso. Il monte che si staglia dalla parte opposta dell’abitato e che sembra galleggiare è il Caperno. Dai residenti viene chiamato “la montagna dell’Eco” per la sua capacità, raccontano, di restituire un’eco se gli lanci un grido. Durante la bella stagione, il lago si anima con le tante barche colorate che si “crogiolano” al sole e le imbarcazioni dei canottieri (Piediluco è anche campo di gara per regate nazionali ed internazionali) che filano sull’acqua. Ed arrivano anche gli appassionati di canoa, vela e windsurfing. Tutti sport che qui si possono praticare. Passeggiando nel borgo, si scorgono deliziosi scorci dei vicoletti su cui sono addossate le case e si incontrano graziose piazzette da cui ammirare un bel panorama. La Chiesa di SAN FRANCESCO prospetta sulla strada dalla sua posizione sopraelevata. Costruita per ricordare il passaggio del Santo a Piediluco, la chiesa venne completata nel 1338. Oggi è Santuario Francescano ed è inserita nell’itinerario della VIA di FRANCESCO. Located at the southern tip of Umbria, on the border with Lazio, squeezed between the Luco and Caperno mountains, it is the largest in the region after Trasimeno. The basin has an irregular shape and from this derives a considerable development of the bank of about 13 km, compared to the surface which is only 1.52 sq km. Located at about 370 meters above sea level, the lake in correspondence with the town reaches its maximum depth of about 20 meters. However, there are very few points where the water does not exceed 12. Among the major tributaries the Rio Fuscello which originates from the eastern side of the Tillia, the other two are artificial canals. The Piediluco lake, together with the small ones of the ratina plain, is what remains of the ancient Lacus Velinus, of alluvial origin, formed starting from the Quaternary as a consequence of the oroidrographic events concerning the Nera and Velino rivers. It has been hypothesized that in the period of its maximum extension the Velino lake covered almost the whole of the Rieti plain, reaching as far as the Marmore ridge. The PIEDILUCO LAKE remains in your heart after you have seen it. The glimpses that reveal themselves before entering the town already reveal its beauty. The village, gathered at the foot of Mount Luco, overlooks the lake, its lake. There is a close and very ancient bond between the two. On the top of Mount Luco stands the mighty fortress which in the Middle Ages presided over the territory. Now it imposes its presence. From here the gaze dominates an incomparable view: the lake, with its bizarre shape and its elongated arms, appears set among green hills and valleys that make up a wonderful landscape. The mountain that stands out on the opposite side of the town and that seems to float is the Caperno. Residents call it "the mountain of the Echo" for its ability, they say, to return an echo if you shout at it. During the summer, the lake comes alive with the many colorful boats that "bask" in the sun and the rowing boats (Piediluco is also a competition area for national and international regattas) spinning on the water. And also canoeing, sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts arrive. All sports that can be practiced here. Strolling in the village, you can see delightful glimpses of the alleys on which the houses are built and you will meet pretty squares from which to admire a beautiful panorama. The Church of SAN FRANCESCO overlooks the street from its elevated position. Built to commemorate the passage of the Saint to Piediluco, the church was completed in 1338. Today it is a Franciscan Sanctuary and is included in the itinerary of the VIA di FRANCESCO.
