C., riporta che Búvaianúm (Bovianum in latino), odierna Bojano, capitale dei Sanniti (Safineis) Pentri, era difesa da tre cittadelle fortificate. La più riconoscibile coincide con l'attuale Civita di Boiano, con i resti del castello Logobardo-Svevo (crollato a seguito dei terremoti del 1456 e 1805) visibile nelle foto, una seconda non è stata identificata, di quella verosimilmente più alta i resti sono visibili sul Monte Crocella (anche La Crocella), sulla cui sommità si intravede un recinto in muratura grossomodo circolare e i resti di una cisterna (anche qui, aggiungo foto). Oltre all'aspetto archeologico, interessante il panorama sulla piana di Bojano, con visione dall'alto del borgo di Civita, verso Nord, e del Matese a Sud (le cime principali nascoste, sono invece visibili le più basse, ma isolate, Colle dell'Orso, Monte Patalecchia, La Defenzuola, Colle di Mezzo). Circa 80 minuti di cammino da Civita di Bojano, percorso piacevole ma senza punti acqua e, nell'ultima parte, senza un vero e proprio sentiero (ma la croce in cima basta ad orientarsi) dopo aver lasciato la via di Don Geppino. Appiano of Alessandria, in his Historia Romana, during his chronicle of the Social Wars, in describing the Roman siege of the second capital of the Italic League (after the fall of Corfinio) in 89 a. C., reports that Búvaianúm (Bovianum in Latin), today's Bojano, capital of the Samnites (Safineis) Pentri, was defended by three fortified citadels. The most recognizable coincides with the current Civita di Boiano, with the remains of the Logobardo-Svevo castle (collapsed as a result of the earthquakes of 1456 and 1805) visible in the photos, a second has not been identified, of the most likely the remains are visible on Monte Crocella (also La Crocella), on top of which you can see a roughly circular enclosure and the remains of a cistern (here, too, I add photos). In addition to the archaeological aspect, the view of the Bojano plain is interesting, with a view from above of the village of Civita, to the north, and of the Matese to the south (the main hidden peaks, on the other hand, are the lowest, but isolated, Colle dell 'Bear, Mount Patalecchia, La Defenzuola, Colle di Mezzo). About 80 minutes of walking from Civita di Bojano, a pleasant route without water points and, in the last part, without a real path (but the cross at the top is enough to orientate) after leaving Don Geppino's path.
