The store has been around for nearly 25 years and the store owner, Valentina, is very sweet and an artisan herself, which is a bonus. Everything sold in the store is made in italy, which i found is not the case with %80 of thr other stores where they sell chinese made souvenir. Very important to support local businesses.

Near the Rialto Bridge, we happened upon a small shop selling calligraphy pens, compasses, hand-made marbleized paper, and similar arcane and lovely items. Both the shop and the proprietor, Elio, felt as if they should be part of a Charles Dickens novel. Elio, who creates the marbleized paper himself, spent at least half an hour demonstrating the various and proper methods to use the signet stamps that Barbara bought. If you love this sort of antiquarian atmosphere, La Carta is a must!

TOURIST TRAP. Owner said she handmade the journals, they were pretty and she was pleasant. I bought one and a some stamps and letter opener. However on my walk through Venice I find out they are cheap copies. She never officially claimed them to be something they are not, careful wording. I bought the items at 1100 and tried to return them at 1840. The worker said that in her 30 years (in good English) that she never heard of such a thing (someone wanting to return NOT exchange). Truth be told there is a law in Italy that allows shop owners to deny returns with the exception of a defect. However that is a choice to not allow returns. I told her they were my anniversary gift (anniversario) which I said in both English and Italian. I live in Italy so I have some words and accent down, been here two years. She then said "I no understand", however... there's that good English again. So tell me how you are stringing sentences together and not understanding? It seriously came to the point that I left my bag of stuff and was ready to walk out in tears, then she gives me a refund €100 (I paid cash). So tell me how it's not possible to refund customers? Don't support businesses that copy real artists.

Great little shop. The woman working was cheerful and helpful. As we were looking for a certain style of handmade leather journals she took it upon herself to go to the back and find more so we could have a better selection. Great service and great product.
