Charming Convent turned Boutique A Charming hotel set in a 17th-century monastery in the picturesque medieval village of Orta San Giulio on the shores of the Lake Orta. The building was once home to a girls’ college run by nuns and comes loaded with stunning views of the island of San Giulio, home to a medieval basilica LOCATION: Great location right next to the next and walkable distance from all key points of interest DINE + DRINK: A lovely bar on site with mind-blowing views of the Lake and the little island of San julio and also a pool table. Outdoor seating(In summer) is a stunner of a setting. The Restaurant(on the first floor) also has good views and the breakfast spread was good(especially the baked goodies!), but lacked any kind of local cuisine! ROOM: I stayed in 314, so this review is based on that; VIEW:LImited, but lovely view of Lake Orta and the town across ; SIZE: reasonably spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: A bit dated, with a Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Decent quality Cosmetics FACILITIES:Be prepared to get into a pure small town chill-out mode! No gym or fitness center on site and the wonderful Swimming pool can be used only in summer time and closed otherwise SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to FRANCESCA at the front desk and LUCA at the bar for going above and beyond to help with our additional needs HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Internet was down for most of our stay, so not sure about the speed. Small Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment mostly in Italian.

Helpful and friendly staff. The hotel is eco conscious and cools the rooms using the lake water so in hot months the rooms are a bit warmer than you might be used to. They were happy to bring us a fan.

Have been to thos hotel several times iover the last 15 years. Overall the location is truly unbeatable and the price / quality still acceptable. The service is fair overall. The facilities are not up to standards, and in need of a refresh expecially the swimming pool. The place to stay is the Β¨villa gippini" building which has only 8-10 rooms which are by far the nicest in the hotel, albeit more expensive than the others. The suite is truly nice with a superb balcony on the lake.

The hotel is in a great location and the village of Orta San Giulio is lovely. However, the design (beige rooms) feels more like an upscale hostel rather than a luxury hotel and the attentiveness / care of the staff is lacking. The centrally controlled air conditioning system in the rooms is also not sufficient in summer. I would not stay here again.

Good location, nice view, very calm, modern rooms and a very nice bar with good drinks and good atmosphere. Breakfast was in a cold room and waiters were not motivated at all... description of car arrival route led through the old town and it was impossible with our car in the narrow streets, were guided by a local

I stayed at the San Rocco hotel for two nights together with my husband after our wedding day. We choose this location because we wanted something special for the occasion so we booked one of their suites. The location was amazing but the staff of the hotel is terrible, where should I begin: when we arrived I was still in my wedding dress and we had quite a lot of bags with us, nobody helps us with our bagguages and we had to walk back and forth in the hotel in order to bring everything in the room, we went several times to the reception to ask questions and every time they asked us a confirmation that we were sleeping in that hotel (in a very cold way). Breakfast is nothing special itself and we had to wait more than 30 min to order a cappuccino, they also forgot to bring bread at our table and they brought that when we were ready with our breakfast. At the end of our little honey moon my dad came to pick us up, this weekend was a gift from him so he came to pay at the reception: the woman at the reception asked twice to my father if we were really clients at the San Rocco and after a long Check in their system they let my father pay. At the bar they didn’t want to make an espresso for him because the bar opens only at 10.00 a.m and he was there at 9.50 a.m. What can I say it’s a pity that those kind of places does not invest in a good service, perhaps they think that a beautiful landscape is enough.

My initial impression was nice and just arrived. After staying here for 3 nights, I have to downgrade my review to 2 stars. The Front Desk personnel were amazing and very helpful-especially Camille. Unfortunately, the nightly rate was quite expensive because you were paying for being "on the lake". I had a basic single room whereby the amenities were non existent - no tissues, the TV was tiny, could not control the A/C, the toilet wouldn't flush properly and no makeup mirror/vanity (although there was room on the desk). There were patched up holes in the walls that were clearly visible, water stains around the vents, black mold around the tub and a moldy old shower curtain. Not worth the money paid for sure in my book even though this place was recommended to us. Thank you.

One of the worst experiences I’ve had in a hotel. TERRIBLE service and complete disregard from management. The location is beautiful, but everything else is completely disappointing. Rooms are expensive for their quality, and despite hosting private weddings, they still rent out rooms to the public. Even though you pay full price, they refuse to serve you food outside when a wedding is on so you can’t even benefit from the amenities you pay for. When we asked the Manager why we couldn’t eat outside as usual, he replied and said β€œ what do you want me to stop the wedding for you?” Extremely rude with no apologies and no attempt to offer a solution. Have never been spoken to that way by someone providing a service that I’m paying for. Absolutely unacceptable. If you are considering staying here, be prepared for terrible service, rude accusations from management, and overpaying for poor quality. The only saving Grace is the location on the lake, and one or two helpful people working there, including Papi - the only reason we had a good stay at the beginning of our stay. Once he was gone, it all went downhill from there.
