Had the risotto. Liked it so much ordered the clam pasta afterwards. The pasta was even better. Expected more service for the cover charge (I.e. front of house manager come and explain the dishes to us when it’s being served), but the staff were overall very friendly.

Whatever you do, be sure not to miss this lovely, originally Austrian, restaurant, which was founded more than 170 years ago, but now for generations already firmly in Venetian hands. Let Maurizio be your guide to the fantastic selection of dishes all made from local ingredients paired by perfectly selected local wines. We enjoyed extremely the special combination between the touch of “haute cuisine” while still recognizing the superb, seasonal, fresh local ingredients so perfectly prepared on the plate in front of you. Enjoy and savor to the full and don’t miss the special Mojito dessert nor the home made fennel focaccia bread!!

We spent a great evening in the restaurant. All starters we tried were very good and the main course was good as well. Bombamisu was a nice dessert. Wine menu is okay. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all very quiet place. Not too big not too small. We will come back.

What a great food and service experience! I spent 2 days in Venice for a weekend break and had in mind several restaurants I wanted to try - all fully booked. The hotel I was staying recommended The Osteria da Franz as alternative. I was a little reluctant as it wasn't part of my option in the beginning but it turned out to be a great surprise. The atmosphere is relaxed. We can only dine outside currently and at the first glance, the place looks a bit cold until you are greeted by the staff. All ingredients are fresh and local, the staff recommends wine and drinks to go with the food. Impeccable service - There is a huge attention to detail that is hard to find nowadays: Wine glass and water glass always filled by the staff, several checks on the food and satisfaction during the service, bags and jackets taken care of, ash tray never dirty. The dishes were prepared to perfection - fish dishes and desserts. The final bill reflected the quality and service provided. I would recommend this place if you are looking to experience local cuisine in a high standard. A big shout out to you guys for making our lunch the big highlight of the trip.

Best meal I had in Venice. I would lick the plate if I could. Server was very friendly and knowledgable. Slightly on the pricy side hence the 4 stars.

The worst experience I’ve ever had in Italy. Our concierge made a mistake with a reservation and according to the restaurants manager we were half an hour late. He was eager to tell us that and to say that he should of asked for a credit card in advance to confirm the reservation. The restaurant had three tables at a time. What a warm welcome. The menu didn’t match the menu you see online browsing the reviews. It is very small and nothing particular catches your eye. We ordered traditional sardines for a starter, one anchovies pasta and one ravioli. The manager wasn’t happy with such a small order and tried to persuade us to order more starters. It wasn’t a nice way to offer more food, I felt like I was under a pressure. As a compliment they brought us a small chip with exactly same fish paste that was brought to us as a part of the starter we ordered- not salty and quite flavorless. Flavorless is what I would call this restaurant. Nobody asked how the food was, nobody tried to explain what it is that we are having on our plates. Very poor service. My husband had to pour our wine, that’s with only three tables busy at the whole place. Finally, the main course arrived. What a horrific experience. I’m not going to brag about flavor, please see a picture attached. Instead of saying something descent regarding the case, our waiter numerous times said that we don’t understand Venetian traditional cuisine, he said that nobody complained before and as I can judge as a psychotherapist he was very passive aggressive giving me an idea that I don’t have this sophisticated taste as he does. Last but not least, while we were getting dressed on our way out the manager and the waiter very loudly discussed our situation which I personally think is very rude considering we had no means to overthink this situation but they did everything so that we do.

The Hostaria da Franz exceeded our expectations. We were looking for an authentic , hospitable dining experience outside of the hotel circuit and we found this restaurant. Not only was the food unbelievably delicious, fresh and beautiful but Mauricio made us feel like family . It will be a true dining experience we will not forget !

My wife and I ate here on our first night in Venice, as it was recommissioned to us by our hotel concierge. This seems to be a place where locals eat, as it was very quiet and off the main path. The owner of the restaurant was very friendly and thoroughly explained the details of every dish. Most importantly, the food was fabulous. The combination of flavors blended very well in each dish, and the price was very reasonable. This is a lovely restaurant with a fine gentleman for an owner.
