Grottammare, a small seaside town, rises along the Marche coast, where the Tesino river flows into the Adriatic. Part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, it is surrounded by a varied and delightful landscape, which makes a wonderful stay for tourists. The streets and houses develop along the coast, breathing in the salty air, and then climb up to the first hills of the hinterland, where the well-known medieval village develops. The village has very ancient origins, whose anthropogenic traces date back to the Neolithic. A Picene necropolis dating back to the VII-V century BC was discovered in the area. Possession of the Abbey of Farfa in the Middle Ages, it was given to Fermo in 1214 by Aldobrandino d'Este. Between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries it was disputed for a long time between Fermo and Ascoli. The current structure of fortified walls dates back to the sixteenth century, characterized by violent disputes with neighboring communities and pirate attacks. The perfectly preserved historic center of Grottammare develops around Piazza Peretti which is overlooked by the Palazzo Priorale, the Altana dell'Orologio, the Teatro dell'Arancio, the elegant loggia and the splendid belvedere. Not far from the square there are numerous churches in the center, including the seventeenth-century church of Santa Lucia, attributed to the architect Fontana and commissioned by Sixtus V. In the walk along the walls you can visit the restored Torrione della Battaglia, which houses inside a museum dedicated to the artist Pericle Fazzini. Every year around mid-August, the Liszt Festival takes place, which sees guests pianists from all over the world, to celebrate the bond that was created between Grottammare and Franz Liszt, the famous Hungarian pianist and composer, who stayed in the summer of 1868 here for six weeks, guest of Count Fenili.

Loved this place, been here with my whole family. The birds are cool (especially the owls) and the people working here really take care of them. The birds' flight exhibition was impressive and enjoyable, the guides were absolutely funny and exhaustive at the same time.

Beautiful birds, many species, a presenter that was entertaining and a view that is hard to beat. We were impressed, as were our kids.

It's a long walk on a hot day, but well worth it to see these amazing birds up close. I'd recommend going to the morning show so the sun is more behind you while watching. It's always sad to see birds in cages, but I understand that these ones can't survive in the wild. But to see them stretch their wings and soar to the sky is amazing.
