Gondola prices in Venice are set by the government at €80 for 30 minutes during the day. These prices were also advertised on the boats themselves. It is however, in a very touristy location and as such might not offer you the most unique of gondola experiences but that is probably going to be with difficult to find in Venice. We were advised to always pay AFTER the ride and YOU MUST DO THE SAME. Despite being asked to pay up front, we insisted and as such, could be sure of our 30 minutes. If you pay up front, the gondaleer might short change you on time. Our gondaleer was friendly and answered all our questions and was quite funny. It IS a beautiful way to see the city, especially after walking through all the hustle & bustle. If you have resigned yourself to the fact that there are no cheap Gondola rides, this seems a convenient place to buy one.

We also had a bad experience with this gondolier. Their location is prime so they get a lot of naive customers like us who don’t know better. For 80 euros and 30 min promised— our gondola ride was only 20 min. He also talked loudly on his cell phone and to other gondoliers for that time so not great for ambiance. We paid upfront so when we complained about being shorted time, he was like the sign says 30 plus or minus a few minutes, so 20 minutes falls within that “minus”. So pretty much a rip off for 80 euros. The experience definitely varies with the gondolier you get. So to be safe, try a more reputable place.

When you think of Venice I’m sure like us, your first thoughts go to a gondola ride. This was a MUST DO for us and our gondolier was quiet but nice and he seemed to be very popular with the other gondoliers who all greeted him. The gondola was lovely and the ride was gentle and quiet. Yes it is expensive. A short ride across and then onto the canal and under the Bridge of Sighs, to the end of that canal and turn around and back under the same bridge was $80 for the two of us. I still say do it though. You won’t regret it.

I have been on several gondola rides here. Truly traditional and awe inspiring. The stripped t shirt wearing Gondola boat pilots steer and sail their gondolas with such ease and poise, its almost like a choreographed dance. The gondolas are shining and well maintained. The price of a gondola is 80 euros and can sit upto 6 passengers.

Great tour, Giacomo was very nice, answered all our questions plus explaining a lot of the history about the places we saw, and gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant.

STAY AWAY!!!! Marco was our gondalier and sadly was as bad as you can get and we were in a traffic jam of gondolas!! He would not stop talking to all the other co-workers around him. (We were surrounded by other gondolier rides!) And that might not be so bad if he was not so mean! He had none of the Italian charm we had envisioned and he took away from any romance or serenity we expected on the ride. Awful!! I was resting the underside of my lower leg on an empty seat because I have edema and he got upset and ordered me to put my foot down! Mind you, my foot was not even on it, I was very careful not to be disrespectful. My normal self would have told him where to go but it was my honeymoon and I did not want to spoil the ride! it was at the beginning and little did I know he was going to spoil the ride anyway! He is such an awful man! Also, we were in a pack of other gondolas! It was like a mass production of gondalier rides. Finally, to make it even worse we noticed there were so many other companies to choose from and we saw where some were even giving attention to the customers giving them history etc on a building they were passing. Thank goodness we have one more day in Venice because it would have been a bad one to end on!! I attached a picture of the gondoliers all packed together and Marco, apparently the worst (I know because our gondolas were all huddled together and I was actually checking the others to see if all the gondoliers were this bad, of course, we had the worst).

It is definitely an amazing experience to try the traditional transportation mean of Venice. Since the 10th century, the Gondola is considered as the main transportation mean at Venice. There is 400 gondolas all over the city. However, it is overpriced and will cost you around 80 Euros. I recommend to have it with the live music experience.

Amazing gondola experience! When in Venice you must ride in one, there is no doubt about that! The nice breeze and scenery is amazing. Definitely recommend and will do again !
