★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I Fori Imperiali sono un complesso architettonico composto da una serie di edifici e piazze monumentali, centro dell'attività politica di Roma antica, edificate in un periodo di circa 150 anni, tra il 46 a.C. e il 113 d.C.
Alla fine del periodo repubblicano, quando Roma era ormai divenuta la capitale di un enorme impero che si estendeva dalla Gallia all’Asia Minore, l’antico Foro romano si rivelò insufficiente alle funzioni di centro amministrativo della città. Giulio Cesare, nel 46 a.C., provvide per primo alla realizzazione di una nuova piazza, considerata all’inizio come un semplice ampliamento del Foro repubblicano. Al Foro di Cesare seguirono il Foro di Augusto, il Foro Transitorio o di Nerva (costruito da Domiziano e inaugurato da Nerva) e il Foro di Traiano, certamente il più grandioso. L’insieme di queste aree archeologiche costituisce, da un punto di vista urbanistico, un complesso organico, rinominato in epoca moderna dei “Fori Imperiali”, che si estende tra il Campidoglio e il Quirinale.

At the end of the Republican period, when Rome had now become the capital of a huge empire that stretched from Gaul to Asia Minor, the ancient Roman Forum proved insufficient to serve as the administrative center of the city. Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, was the first to build a new square, initially considered as a simple extension of the Republican Forum. The Forum of Augustus, the Transitory or Nerva Forum (built by Domitian and inaugurated by Nerva) and the Trajan's Forum, certainly the most grandiose, followed the Forum of Caesar. The set of these archaeological areas constitutes, from an urbanistic point of view, an organic complex, renamed in modern times the "Imperial Forums", which extends between the Capitol and the Quirinale.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best at dawn and night because of the illumination. You can reach the Fori Imperiali with a bus to Piazza Venezia or second best the metro to Colosseum. You need a lot of fantasy to imagine the original appearance of this site. Remember that Michelangelo's Moses is very near in San Pietro in Vincoli.
