u	ursea1952 innocenti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Fonte delle Cavalle si trova lungo la Strada Forestale de La Lama, che da Cancellino porta alla Foresta de La Lama. Situata a 1057 m. s.l.m.. Giunti in localita’ Cancellino (quota 1073) parcheggiamo l’auto nel vasto piazzale di quello che un tempo era il luogo di arrivo della ferrovia per il trasporto del legname: vi si trova ancora l’edificio di servizio, che fungeva anche da ricovero alle tre piccole locomotive, ed e’ in eccellenti condizioni di conservazione. Oltrepassiamo la sbarra che chiude il traffico alle auto private e ci incamminiamo lungo la strada che e’ sterrata ma in ottime condizioni in quanto vi viene effettuata continuamente la manutenzione da parte degli operai del Corpo Forestale dello Stato: ci troviamo subito immersi nel folto della foresta di faggi. Voglio ricordare che ogni km. si trova un cippo che reca impresso il numero progressivo di chilometraggio: nel descrivere il percorso vi faremo riferimento continuamente. Il tratto iniziale e’ in falsopiano e ci porta, dopo 1,5 km., alla prima sorgente che si trova subito sotto strada, sul lato sinistro: e’ la Sorgente del Re (quota 1136). Lasciamo la sorgente e proseguiamo il cammino in leggera ascesa per raggiungere, poco prima del km. 3, il Passo dei Lupatti (quota 1171) dove sorgono maestosi alberi di faggio e dove incrociamo il sentiero 00 di crinale proveniente dal Passo dei Mandrioli e diretto al Passo della Crocina: il tratto della ferrovia che andava dal Passo dei Lupatti al Cancellino era in leggera discesa e per questo i vagoni carichi di legname venivano rallentati nella loro corsa da uomini appositamente addestrati chiamati “frenatori”. Ora dal Passo dei Lupatti fino alla Lama la strada proseguira’ sempre in discesa: immersi nella foresta camminiamo attraversando le pendici del monte Cucco e del Poggio Rovino fino a giungere a Pian della Saporita (quota 1051), nei pressi del km. 6. In questa localita’ avveniva il rifornimento di acqua e legna e vi era anche l’unica possibilita’ di scambio tra i convogli provenienti da sensi opposti grazie al raddoppio dei binari. Riprendiamo il cammino e in pochi minuti perveniamo, poco prima del km. 7, alla Fonte delle Cavalle (quota 1057) che troviamo sul lato sinistro della strada. The Fonte delle Cavalle is located along the La Lama Forest Road, which leads from Cancellino to the La Lama Forest. Located at 1057 m. s.l.m .. Once in the locality 'Cancellino (altitude 1073) we park the car in the large square of what was once the arrival point of the railway for the transport of timber: there is still the service building, which also served as a shelter for three small locomotives, and it is in excellent condition. We pass the barrier that closes traffic to private cars and we walk along the road which is unpaved but in excellent condition as maintenance is continuously carried out by the workers of the State Forestry Corps: we are immediately immersed in the thick of the forest of beech trees. I want to remember that every km. there is a stone bearing the progressive mileage number: in describing the route we will refer to it continuously. The initial stretch is on a slight slope and leads us, after 1.5 km., To the first source which is immediately below the road, on the left side: it is the Sorgente del Re (1136 altitude). We leave the source and continue the path slightly uphill to reach, just before km. 3, the Passo dei Lupatti (altitude 1171) where majestic beech trees rise and where we cross the ridge path 00 coming from the Mandrioli Pass and directed to the Crocina Pass: the section of the railway that went from the Passo dei Lupatti to the Cancellino was in light descent and for this reason the wagons loaded with timber were slowed down in their run by specially trained men called “brakemen”. Now from the Passo dei Lupatti to the Lama, the road will always continue downhill: immersed in the forest we walk across the slopes of Mount Cucco and Poggio Rovino until we reach Pian della Saporita (1051 m), near km. 6. In this locality the supply of water and wood took place and there was also the only possibility of exchange between the convoys coming from opposite directions thanks to the doubling of the tracks. We resume the journey and in a few minutes we arrive, just before km. 7, at the Fonte delle Cavalle (altitude 1057) which we find on the left side of the road.
