★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Fontana dei Francesi commemora l'insurrezione dei Soveritani contro l'esercito Napoleonico, avvenuta il 22 Marzo 1806 e ricordata poi come "Vespri Soveritani".
In quell'anno, i Francesi avevano occupato Soveria per via della sua posizione strategica, e non si facevano problemi a razziare le coltivazioni, rubare gli animali e usare le case e i luoghi sacri come depositi per armi e scorte. La popolazione locale era esasperata, e ciò che la fece esplodere fu un particolare evento: il 22 Marzo un ufficiale Francese tentò di "sedurre" una giovane donna Soveritana della quale si era invaghito, venendo immediatamente accoltellato e ucciso dal marito della stessa. La rivolta scoppiò e presto si espanse in tutta la regione. I rivoltosi non riuscirono però a tenere testa ai Napoleonici tanto a lungo, e per rappresaglia Soveria venne data alle fiamme.
Questa fontana, che dovrebbe onorare il ricordo di quando il popolo Soveritano si unì contro gli oppressori, giace in uno stato non proprio ottimale: la targa commemorativa è sporca, non c'è alcun rubinetto che faccia fuoriuscire l'acqua e inoltre il tutto è quasi affossato sotto il livello della strada. Di certo non è così che andrebbe trattato un monumento così importante per la nostra storia.
 The Fontana dei Francesi commemorates the insurrection of the Soveritani against the Napoleonic army, which took place on March 22, 1806 and later remembered as "Vespri Soveritani".
In that year, the French had occupied Soveria because of its strategic position, and they had no problem raiding crops, stealing animals and using houses and sacred places as depots for weapons and supplies. The local population was exasperated, and what made it explode was a particular event: on March 22nd a French officer tried to "seduce" a young woman from Soveritana whom he had fallen in love with, being immediately stabbed and killed by her husband. The revolt broke out and soon spread throughout the region. The rioters, however, were unable to stand up to the Napoleonic forces for so long, and in retaliation Soveria was set on fire.
This fountain, which should honor the memory of when the Soveritan people united against the oppressors, lies in a less than optimal state: the commemorative plaque is dirty, there is no tap that makes the water come out and moreover everything is almost sunk below street level. Certainly this is not how such an important monument for our history should be treated.
