★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Castel Gardena è un edificio rinascimentale che si trova tra Selva Gardena e S. Cristina.
Inizialmente ha svolto il ruolo residenza estiva e tenuta di caccia, ma ha subito nel tempo diversi cambi d'uso.
Completamente ristrutturato nel 1926 dal Barone Carlo Franchetti di Venezia , purtroppo non può essere visitato. Per questo 2 stelle.
Castel Gardena is a Renaissance building located between Selva Gardena and S. Cristina.
Initially it played the role of summer residence and hunting lodge, but has undergone several changes of use over time.
Completely renovated in 1926 by Baron Carlo Franchetti of Venice, unfortunately it cannot be visited. For this 2 stars.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Posto incantevole !! Castello privato più alto d'Europa. Proprietà della famiglia Franchetti-Twombly è una grande magione che riunisce famiglia e amici in estate. Dotata di una moltitudine di stanze riscaldate con splendide stufe seicentesche in ceramica risulta molto accogliente malgrado l'imponente struttura. Poterci soggiornare è un'esperienza indimenticabile.
Lovely place !! Europe's highest private castle. Owned by the Franchetti-Twombly family, it is a large mansion that brings together family and friends in the summer. Equipped with a multitude of heated rooms with splendid 17th century ceramic stoves, it is very welcoming despite the impressive structure. Being able to stay there is an unforgettable experience.

Mein erster Gedanke beim Anblick dieser Burg war: Nicht unbedingt der Ort an dem man während einer dunklen und stürmischen Nacht zum Dinner eingeladen werden möchte....Kein Wunder hat Roman Polanski einige Szenen für seinen wunderbaren Film "Tanz der Vampire" (The Fearless Vampire Killers) in diesem Anwesen gedreht...:)
Located right next to the Saslong slope. My first thought upon seeing this castle was: Not exactly the place you would want to be invited to dinner on a dark and stormy night....No wonder Roman Polanski shot some scenes for his wonderful film The Fearless Vampire Killers) filmed in this property...:)

Donato dai Wolkenstein al comune, è stato acquistato da privati già nel 1926.
Si raggiunge svoltando a destra all'uscita del paese di Santa Cristina, nei pressi dell'incrocio con la provinciale (dir. Selva).
Successivamente svoltate a sinistra
proseguite costeggiando il torrente fino ad un ponte ed in 500/600 metri ( in salita) arriverete al castello.
Non è possibile attivarci in auto.
Solo a piedi od in bicicletta.
Purtroppo e' privato e non è assolutamente visitabile.
Beautiful medieval castle that takes its name from the pools where the feudal lords kept a sort of fish farm.
Donated by the Wolkenstein family to the municipality, it was bought by private individuals as early as 1926.
It can be reached by turning right at the exit of the village of Santa Cristina, near the intersection with the provincial road (direction Selva).
Then turn left
continue along the stream until you reach a bridge and in 500/600 meters (uphill) you will arrive at the castle.
It is not possible to activate us by car.
Only on foot or by bicycle.
Unfortunately it is private and cannot be visited at all.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The view of the town and mountains from the castle slopes are beautiful. I image it would be an amazing view from the castle towers. Currently the castle is privately own and not open to the public. The castle buildings are just as interesting up close as they are from afar.
